With last minute bookings, confusing websites and the general chaos of flying it's easy for fellow travellers to get split up when they board the plane. For most this can give a relaxing few hours of alone time before or after the holiday but for parents with young children it's a little more tricky.
Someone with a young child might be nervous about leaving them on the other side of a busy plane, worried about what they might get up to. That's why often parents might ask someone to move so they can sit with their children.
post read: "Had a woman ask me to change on a TPAC flight from Japan. I was bulkhead window and her toddler daughter was in the middle next to me while she was in the middle seat in the row behind me.

I agree that the should not give up there seat for a leftist parent who can’t plan.
My experience as a young man proved otherwise. :-)
normally I would think it slightly rude to point out that it’s typical of the leftsiders to not plan well...but not in this case. seems in the daily walk of life it’s the lefty types who are more likely to try imposing on ones time and energy because THEY couldn’t be bothered with paying attention to the details. “paying attention to the details always results in less details being missed” L.Star
Just pull a San Francisco. Drop a deuce in the aisle.
It’s probably fine nowadays…
just no. plan better and don’t be cheapo.
also consider a road trip with your kiddos if possible.
Yes i have kids, yes they flew overseas but i also watch my kids and plan ahead.
Too many people think “their gift from God” is everybody’s gift.
ain’t necessarily so.
Parents traveling with children need to be responsible enough to book themselves together, and that includes planning far enough ahead to get seats together.
That is exactly what I think is going on.
Make the asked person look like the bad guy for not being accommodating and the parents the victims because the other guy is mean and said no, instead of the parent being greedy and manipulative.
Manipulators know EXACTLY what they are doing.
P to the fifth, prior planning prevents poor performance.
YEP, annoying when people who lack of preparation or planning force you into uncomfortable positions.
Excellent point.
So you had a choice, upgrade or pre booked seats in coach,
Yeah, outrage
I’m ambivalent
But given how tall am I try to fly forward when I can
I just sacrifice $$
I would def change on short flight
Stews should have resolved this
I once was on a flight I had to console a child alone on a scary flight
She was terrified around 6
Very bumpy lightning etc
It’s what u do if you’re not lizard people
My wife and I once had Colombian grandparents ask us in waiting area at gate to let their one and two year olds fly back with us to the kids in Miami where we lived
I was gringo and wifey Latina from Rio and very preggers waddling about
We agreed
Sweet little ones
Carlito and Keena
I remember their names 35 years later
They thought we looked kind and trustworthy
And we were
I love kids and dogs
'Reserving' seats doesn't seem to make any difference. Back in 2019 my wife and I flew Lufthansa from Houston to Frankfort, Germany, and then on to Budapest.
Coming home we flew American from London to Houston.
We did not receive any of the seats we had selected during booking. That all changed when we checked in at the gate. I think at that point we were lucky that we just got to sit together at all.
Exactly, last week the wife and daughter were flying Tokyo to Dallas and was offered 1 upgrade, the declined to sit together.
Now I did game the system a little, in coach I put 1 in an aisle seat and the other a window, they lucked out and the middle seat remained empty. I assume a middle seater would readily swap for a window or aisle if offered.
Here I sit, all broken hearted
Paid $5 and only ....
I’ll never fly again.
At least this isn’t as nervy as the story of the mother in business class asked the person next to her to swap seats with her kid in coach. In that case I noticed that she didn’t offer to swap her business seat with the person in coach next to her kid.
