So how does any of this affect the Congressional investigations into the Bidens?

Some commentators on cable TV news programs are saying that this special counsel now is the key investigative entity rather than congressional committees. The way they talk it’s as if the congressional committees now have no reason to investigate because this special counsel is doing so.

I don’t pretend to know who has ultimate Authority and or is there overlapping Authority involved, if you have a special counsel plus Congressional investigations happening into the same subject.

It seems to me Congress could investigate things and even do an impeachment inquiry independent of whatever this special counsel is doing. But some of these Talking Heads on cable TV news programs seem to be saying that Congress has no need to do any investigations now.

Remarkably well-written piece, which can be a rarity these days.

As a related aside, considering the above, and along with persuasive evidence of (putting things politely) some visible absence of cognitive acumen, does anyone really believe that Mister Biden actually plans to follow through on running in 24?

One suspects a bait and switch, with a more superficially attractive candidate, introduced at the last minute (so as to avoid all that pesky public scrutiny.)

Yes,of course it is. And choosing Weiss was a direct violation of the Special Counsel statute which clearly, simply and specifically states that a Special Counsel must be chosen from *outside* the United States Government.

Just a Trick to Better Shield the US President & His Son

Every single bit of this can be laid at the feet of all the RINOs that Republican voters continue to support and elect. Nothing more.

Nothing like having your comrades in arms steering an investigation of crimes they participated in with you.

So Merrick Garland appoints member of the Biden Defense Team to be Special Council investigating the Biden Crime Family, and that appears to be just fine with the GOP.

I am confused.
Is David Weiss, Hunter Biden’s defense attorney or is he Joe Biden’s DOJ attorney? Or is he, as you sometimes see in divorce cases and real estate transactions a ‘Dual Agent’?

Does the appointment of Superdooper Special Counsel shut down the congressional investigations into the Biden Crime Family?

Does this mean, Trump really planted the cocaine in the White House? With Hunter’s computer in the library?

If any DOJ was serious about a special counsel for matters relating to Hunter Biden it would the appointment (a) would not be the DA who has already failed - and seriously slow walked - in his prosecution of Hunter Biden, and (b) would have to be, by the DOJ’s own rules, have to be someone who is independent and not part of the DOJ now. Weiss fails on all counts.

Re: "The Appointment of a Special Counsel"

Why is every news report on this story using exactly the same headline?

To me, it feels like a premeditated agreement to disguise the fact that the "Special Counsel" is the exact SAME guy who investigated Hunter for FIVE years and...

(1) Let two felonies expire when the Statute of Limitations ran out.

(2) Reduced two felony tax crimes to misdemeanors.

(3) Deferred a gun related felony pending completion of drug treatment.

(4) And, released Hunter from any further investigation on any remaining issues if Hunter signed the plea agreement.

This is Prosecutorial fraud!

Abetted by Journalistic fraud!

Though they’re not subject to the day-to-day supervision of the Justice Department, special counsels must still comply with department regulations, policies and procedures. They also technically report to the attorney general — the one government official who can fire them. The attorney General reports to the POTUS. Interesting little peck order.

It is Joe ,more than Hunter, That needs the protection. Hunter is small fry compared to Joe. Have they looked how much Joe stands to gain from the Afghan debacle?
