Man killed by uncontacted tribe after trying to convert them to Christianity
The Mirror ^

John Allen Chau had tried to make contact with the hostile and isolated Sentinelese people, who were known to be aggressive toward outsiders and are a protected tribe with restrictions on visiting their island

An ambitious Christian missionary met an untimely end when he was slaughtered by a uncontacted tribe after trying to convert them to his religion.

John Allen Chau, 27, visited an island in the Indian Ocean inhabited by people who are part of an endangered tribe. People are banned from even approaching North Sentinel Island to protect the people who live there and their way of life.

But that didn't stop John, who made the dangerous journey to try and convert the people who lived there to Christianity. He'd grown up in a Christian home in Vancouver, Washington, and had a passion for hiking, camping and travelling.

John regularly documented his experiences online, and after returning from a trip to Mexico in high school he gave a homily where he said Christians "need to know how to defend our faith".

"When we go out in our world, there are people that'll just come and oppose us, and they'll have questions, and they'll have questions, and they'll have arguments..." he said. "We can't just, like, go out there unprepared. We need to know what we believe and why we believe it."

So he broke the law and tried to intrude on these people who didn’t want him there, and paid for it with his life. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

It happens. Perhaps the next generation of the tribe will be ardent Christians. The Huaorani Indians murdered Jim Elliot, Nate Saint, Ed McCully, Peter Fleming, and Roger Youderian.

“So, did the men die in vain? Did the Huaorani ever hear and receive the message about Jesus? It turns out that the men weren’t the only courageous ones. Following their deaths, with the help of Dayuma, Jim’s wife, Elisabeth (along with daughter, Valerie), and Nate’s sister, Rachel, returned to live among the Huaorani, offering them forgiveness and completing the task the men had begun. This led to the conversion of many in the tribe, including at least one of the murderers. Ultimately, the New Testament was translated into the Wao language.”

They know about the outside world, but with CRT, transgenderism, global warming and other issues made up, they want to be left alone.

Besides, it is illegal to visit them...

Not to mention it’s a very small tribe - estimates of the population recently seem to be only in the double digits. They must be inbred to an extreme, and no one knows their language. This is just one group of people to stay the heck away from, for all sorts of reasons.

Many years ago, a preacher at church mentioned Jim Elliott and his team.

A man in the pews came up to him after and said that he was one of the US Navy sailors who recovered the bodies. He had not been in a church for any reason until that day.

God does work.

It’s never worked well for me. I don’t think I’m the only one. Others who have posted duplicates have said they searched first but nothing came up.

Jesus died for the sake of everyone, including these lost souls. They need to hear about their Savior and make their decision about their own souls. None of us have the right to deprive them of eternal life with God.

People have been found in isolated groups before in the last century but haven’t died off because of their finders coming into contact with them.

As long as the man was there to tell them what the Scriptures tell of Jesus’ love and sacrifice for them, the rest doesn’t matter.

Jesus never, ever told the Apostles to fight back. That would’ve negated His message of the love and peace that comes from trusting in Him. Jesus only told them to leave those who rejected Him, after they witnessed about Him.

We need to drop some disease carrying blankets or some nerve gas there. Freaking savages. Why does everyone act so reverent about the holy natives?

The article -- assuming it is accurate -- does not indicate that, but perhaps you and I see the article differently.

The problem remains. And "the rest" seems to matter to many. As an example -- Does the Episcopal Church in the US or the Anglican Church which has split off properly represent "what the Scriptures tell?" Or how about the ELCA versus the NALC? The PCUSA versus the ECO? The current schism ongoing in the Methodist Church? So many examples of contention between rivals using the same words.

I do not mean these questions merely to be contentious. Rather, it is to demonstrate by others' actions that much matters.

Moreover, I am sure -- very sure -- that you would push back against such contentions as "Jesus was a socialist" which was trotted out in the last decades. "Love and sacrifice" dressed in Noah's original rainbow hues seems much different that "love and sacrifice" dressed up in drag queen hour rainbow hues.

This young man was surely ardent in his wish. But as the phrase goes, "the devil is in the details."

Or in the case of Evo Morales, the presentation of a hammer and sickle crucifix to Pope Francis.

I don’t know if it’s still there, but the remains of the aircraft from that mission were displayed in the lobby of Mission Aviation Fellowship in Nampa, Idaho.

I see a lot of people here post items that have been previously posted and then comments that the “search function still works”. Does it work well? I have anecdotally tried to search things from time to time without much success.

Sometimes google search works better than FR's. In the past, I have googled the title with the words *Free Republic* added, and that usually brings up any article someone posted on FR.

That is a good reason for people to think about and use the keyword function.

Also one of the mods pointed out some time ago, that if you put a word from the title in the box and then select titles, any title with that word in it will show up.
