I Rate Emma Lazarus 8 or 9 Out Of Ten As A Poet And 7 Out Of Ten As A Babe. Who Agrees?

Poet Emma Lazarus was born on July 22nd, 1849 in New York City.

She is most famous for the words:

“Give me your tired, your poor,/ Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,/ The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me ....."

She also had some great thoughts about the dangers of anti patriotic crap:

"“Let our first care today be the re-establishment of our physical strength, the reconstruction of our national organism, so that in future, where the respect due to us cannot be won by entreaty, it may be commanded, and where it cannot be commanded, it may be enforced.”

This insight is from two centuries ago, but sounds pretty MAGA to me. Likewise the following couplet could be about the cancerous ideologies eating away at us in the West today:

“There is no comfort looking forth nor back, The present gives the lie to all her past.”

“Naught is too small and soft to turn and sting.”

“Until we are all free, we are none of us free.”

God Bless Emma Lazarus, a good looking woman IMHO and a very important poet and thinker.

Really?

I'd prefer we take down her damn poem and build a wall.

“Until we are all free, we are none of us free.”

Wow. Not only was she for open borders, she was a Neocon.

One must keep in mind that the poem was not on Lady Liberty when installed in the harbor. The plaque was added many years later by the leftist governor of NY.

It may have been a reasonable sentiment at that time but times have changed. The people admitted to the USA at those times did not carry satchel nukes and have ‘I hate the USA’ tattooed on their chest. They were looking for a hand up, not a hand out. At that time most immigrants came with their families unlike the current invasion of mostly military-aged males, an army of ignorant, diseased human detritus that offer our society nothing but dependency and their DNA.

A nation that cannot or will not control immigration is lost.

They were looking for a hand up, not a hand out.

Also forgotten is that many immigrants returned to their homelands because they couldn't make it in the U.S.

They came to seek their fortune. To build a better life. But they had to do it without handouts.

Some succeeded. But some did not and so returned to the Old Country. There was no safety net to keep them here.

Sir Mix-A-Lot would certainly like her...

Absolutely give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, but only if they yearn to be free.

If they yearn to sell drugs and send money back to their home country, to live off the teat of government, and form roaming gangs of thugs, no thank you.

No poem is wrong more than give us your poor…
All majority white countries are being destroyed by low IQ, diseased immigrants.
Fix your own country.

"It may have been a reasonable sentiment at that time but times have changed."

People have changed. The "something for nothing" dominates the general attitude of most illegals. Since most are examples of failures from their countries of origins they are mostly "wretched refuse" with selfish motives who will never change.

It’s not just the illegals these days.
Seems most people want to take more out of the pot, than they put in it.

We're full up on tired, poor wretched refuse. Please stop sending them.

The full name of the statue is "Liberty Enlightening the World". We are meant to serve as an example of freedom. Instead we are sinking into a morass of taxes, regulations, corruption and government ordered silencing of opinions and even facts which go against the official narrative. We are moving fron shining example for the world to a dark warning.
