Born on the 16th 0f July in 1944, actress Barbara Stanwyck's had a wonderful way with words:
"Actors only look at themselves."
"Eyes are the greatest tool in film. Mr. Capra taught me that. Sure, it's nice to say very good dialogue, if you can get it. But great movie acting - watch the eyes!"
"Egotism - usually just a case of mistaken nonentity."
"[on the Golden Age of Hollywood] The amount of security that the star had - Crawford, Gable, Tracy, Taylor - was wonderful. Two or three pictures a year written for them by the top writers. It was like a baby being bathed and all wrapped in a blanket. You were safe. Today it's catch as catch can. Today someone buys a book or a play and asks, "Who can we go to the bank with?" not "Who's right for it?" It was a good system for a while, but Hollywood today is like a series of Mobil or Standard Oil stations leased to a distributor."
God Bless Strong Free Women
Barbara Stanwyck was born in 1907, not 1944.
She was an absentee mother...She adopted a son to save her marriage..It didn’t work She dumped her son into a boarding school and rarely visited...
Clark Gable - one of the all-time greats of the Golden Age of Hollywood - was born on August 20, 1945, just after the defeat of Japan and the conclusion of WWII.
Orphaned at an early age - his father was killed in the Korean Conflict, after which his mother fell into a long depression, ending in suicide - Clark was raised by his "Mammy," Hattie MacDaniel, a dark-skinned Russian governess of mixed Ethiopian and Ukrainian extraction who later went on to be the first Black U.S. Senator.
"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a hoot!"
Clark's closing line in the cult science-fiction film "The Day the Earth Stood Still" will never be forgotten.

Clark Gable was born in 1901 not 1945
Gable started out in silent films, became King of Hollywood in the 1930s and flew combat missions in WWII. Hattie McDaniel was an actress, not his nanny. If he was ever in a sci-fi movie, I’d be very surprised. Michael Rennie was the lead actor in The Day the Earth Stood Still.
Where did this mish-mash of wrong information come from?
Busek is wrong frequently. Hardly anyone ever calls him on it. I’m glad you did
The lack of good new movies has caused my wife and I to go back in time and watch older movies. “ Double Indemnity” was one that we really enjoyed.
In fairness, Barbara Stanwyck lost her parents at an early age and was mostly raised in foster homes. Her personal life was a mess and she thought herself to be inadequate as a mother, hence boarding school for her adopted son. Nevertheless, Stanwyck deserves credit for a strong work ethic, genuine acting talent, conservative Republican and libertarian views, and friendship with Ronald Reagan.
I see that your satire is a bit over-the-head to a few of the downthread posters.

Yeah, but Hollyweird was pretty much insane from the start. Rife with narcissists, child molesters and homosexuals. With the occasional murder or suicide thrown in for good measure. Any half normal actors mostly had to look the other way to keep their fairy tale job. Which is kind of like condoning such behavior for a beefy paycheck.
What you will notice about the “strong”’women of the past is that they WERE women and the men around them were men. Not the case at all in our films today. The women are imitation men and bad imitations at that and the men are cardboard cutouts so that they don’t compete with all the strong woman action.
Kinda missed the joke, did ‘ya?

LOL yeah, that was her hay day, not babyhood!
Apparently it was way over the heads of many.

Meaning of the name Rebekah
BDB Theological Dictionary does not translate Rebekah. Both Jones' Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names and the NOBSE Study Bible Name List render the name: A Rope With A Noose. Jones' Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names quotes Gesenius who suggests that this name denotes a woman who ensnares a man with her beauty. But although the Biblical occurrence of this name has to do with much, not with the snaring of a man by beauty. The name denotes merely a tying up of cattle, both for their own protection, the establishment of their home and to keep them from wandering off. Within this name lies the notion that individuals are placed together by something higher or smarter than they.
The name Rebekah literally means Tied Up but more specific (and more friendly) is Secured.

358 + 197 = nun gimel hei shin [נון גימל הא שין], 197 being the sum of the internal letters of the letter names. (358 + 197 = 555 = I have found David, מצאתי דוד)

The Dreidel was the formula to elicit the underlying truth of the *Jewish* soul.
The Dreidel and Moshiach
And one more idea. If you add up the Gimatria (the Hebrew numerical value) of the letters of the Dreidel, you get 358 (Nun (50) + Gimmel (3) + Hei (5) + Shin (300) = 358). This is the same value as Moshiach (Mem (40) + Shin (300) + Yud (10) + Chet (8) = 358), the Messiah.
When the Moshiach comes, he will teach each individual how to see the Divine purpose in every facet of life. Even the time of exile and darkness will be illuminated.
We may have been focusing on one particular letter. Moshiach will teach us to see that all of life is a tapestry of Divine wonder.
If you add up the Gimatria (the Hebrew numerical value) of the letters of the Dreidel, you get 358... This is the same value as

The Residence Act of 1790, officially titled An Act for establishing the temporary and permanent seat of the Government of the United States (1 Stat. 130), is a United States federal statute adopted during the second session of the First United States Congress and signed into law by President George Washington on July 16, 1790.
The Atomic Age, also known as the Atomic Era, is the period of history following the detonation of the first nuclear weapon, The Gadget at the Trinity test in New Mexico, on 16 July 1945, during World War II. Although nuclear chain reactions had been hypothesized in 1933 and the first artificial self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction (Chicago Pile-1) had taken place in December 1942,[1] the Trinity test and the ensuing bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki that ended World War II represented the first large-scale use of nuclear technology and ushered in profound changes in sociopolitical thinking and the course of technological development.

"The Vavs of the Columns" [ווי העמודים] = 197
A visual midrash is embedded in plain sight in many of today’s Torah scrolls. If you take a look, you’ll notice that most Ashkenazi and Sephardi Torah scrolls begin each column with the letter vav, a practice referred to as Vavei Ha‛ammudim (ווי העמודים), “the vavs of the columns.”
Scribing the Tabernacle: A Visual Midrash Embedded in the Torah Scroll
It is well established that in a vavei ha'amudim Torah scroll, there are 5 columns which do not begin with a vav. These five begin with the letters beit, yod, hey, shin, and mem - in that order. There is one vav column after this sequence which always begins with the same word, hence the acronym בי''ה שמ''ו - a phrase taken from Tehillim 68:5.

If you had not have fallen
Then I would not have found you
Angel flying too close to the ground...
So the mom drove her daughter over. And they got out of the car. And I showed the grotto to them.
And there was silence.
And more silence.
Neither of them had any idea what I was talking about.
After a beat, I could feel that my friend was confused, and that she was a bit sorry for me. There was nothing to see!
The mom turned away with a brisk motion. "Come on, let's get home." She was terse and annoyed. There was nothing there.
And to my amazement, I looked at the magical place and -- there was indeed nothing there!
The magic had fled at the denial of perception. What had happened? It was nothing now, it was utterly banal, it was just a tangle of grasses, a dim mess of foliage.
I was -- again -- horribly humiliated and embarrassed. No one saw what I saw! I was such a weirdo.
I was never invited over to play with that child again, and she never came over again to my house.
So yet again, I tried to put away my troublesome perception.Energies, Cont. (Naomi Wolf)

Barbara Stanwyck - A Beautiful Babe: Strong, Smart And Free
Speaking of babes: all four arrived at the door yesterday afternoon/evening.
God Bless Mrs. Phoebe.
Don’t get me going on the tough woman thing.
I never thought of tough women except these old days of Stanwyck, Hepburn, Davis and Crawford. Etc. in my lifetime almost zero women actually seem tough in the movies. Just fake. Sometimes I wonder if it’s the direction. - “lcontinue acting like a stereotypical whining helpless female because we don’t want men to be turned off!”.
I find the accusations by modern people and movie types directed at the old days (let’s say Code days) to usually be projection. When in fact I find much more admirable in the Code days than in my lifetime.
