Regular Short Naps Could Be The Easiest Way to Reduce The Risk of Dementia
Science Alert ^ | 22 June 2023 | Rebecca Dyer

Regular, short snoozes keep our brains young by preserving volume, a quality linked with healthy cognitive functions and a lower risk of dementia and other diseases.

Scientists from the US, UK, and Uruguay analyzed data from 378,932 people aged 40 to 69 to see how those who are genetically 'programmed' to nap regularly fared cognitively compared to those who lacked comparable genes

Nappers, they found, had larger brains, equivalent to those who were 2.6 to 6.5 years younger.

"Our study points to a causal link between habitual napping and larger total brain volume," says lead author Valentina Paz, a neuroscientist at University College London (UCL).

Just the other week, I read a short article about
‘the dangers’ of napping too often.
It’s become like reading about ‘the dangers’ drinking coffee.

I like my naps. But I do think there is not enough time in the day for all of the naps that Biden needs.

Just wait. Soon too many naps, or too few naps, will be another avenue to the Climate Crisis!!

How about regular LONG naps?

I never saw the point in interrupting things for a mere 15 minute or half hour nap. An hour at minimum, or I get up more tired than before, and grumpy(ier).

Oh, it is in the article:
"...prior studies suggest naps under 30 minutes are best, with earlier naps less likely to affect nighttime sleep.....

Well, I always was 'different'.

Look up Mythbusters. Years ago they did an episode on those 15 minute power naps. They work. But then too, sometimes a couple hours is so sweet.

My nap are NOT short. It takes me half an hour to get to sleep. So they usually total an hour.

At 74 I’ve taken maybe 5 naps in my adult life. Even as kid I wasn’t a napper. I’m never tired enough during the day to go to sleep, but I’ve read so much about the benefits of naps that I wish I could do it. My brain’s off switch only becomes functional around midnight.

Any time I see the words, “could be” in a medical study title, I know it’s crap.

Don’t forget the dangers of eating eggs (then NOT eating eggs, then no, eating eggs was HEALTHY and GOOD for you)...
