VIDEO
While watching this video of an out of control chairlift with skiers, the scene might seem eerily familiar. If so, that is because you are conjuring up memories of the spinning out of control carousel in Alfred Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train."

Perhaps the WEIRDEST thing about that carousel scene was the police detective firing at the wrong guy in a spinning carousel filled with people, then missing the wrong guy but hitting and killing the carousel operator.
p.s. The deranged Bruno Antony was perhaps Robert Walker's greatest role.

Saw that video a year ago and it's exactly the type of mishap I would expect at a Russian ski resort.......
Where's OSHA when you need them.

Agreed. He was strangely likeable and off-putting at the same time. Even though he was crazy, he (and the script and the director) made us see how in his own demented way, his logic kind of works.
He was also able to set off "gaydar" without being explicit and scaring the horses. THAT's the way to do it.

I don't just mean the murder . . . EVERYTHING. The character was very intelligent, egotistical, and made a set of rules that worked in his own universe.

Happened at Sugarloaf in Vermont in 2015:
Mechanical Failure Caused Sugarloaf chairlift malfunction
Most people don't appreciate the imbalance of a loaded chairlift. The weight on the uphill side is enormous in comparison to the (empty) downhill side. When the lift motor stops, the whole system wants to equalize, which would be when all of the loaded chairs are at the bottom end of the loop. Chairlifts have brakes (usually a redundant system of two or three braking mechanisms) that are supposed to prevent a "rollback" if the lift motor stops, but if those brakes fail, all hell breaks loose.
