Perhaps the WEIRDEST thing about that carousel scene was the police detective firing at the wrong guy in a spinning carousel filled with people, then missing the wrong guy but hitting and killing the carousel operator.

p.s. The deranged Bruno Antony was perhaps Robert Walker's greatest role.

that was bert the cop in it’s a wonderful life, as he emptied his gun at a fleeing george bailey on a busy street...

perhaps it is the same guy.

Agreed. He was strangely likeable and off-putting at the same time. Even though he was crazy, he (and the script and the director) made us see how in his own demented way, his logic kind of works.

He was also able to set off "gaydar" without being explicit and scaring the horses. THAT's the way to do it.
