Earlier this week, a 34-year-old driver led North Carolina police officers and deputies on a pursuit after fleeing from the officers during a traffic stop. According to the Town of Boone Police Department and the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, later identified as Joshua Minton, of Millers Creek, NC, ran into an undeveloped area after abandoning his vehicle in the Deep Gap area.
Because the suspect was driving fast and recklessly, officers were not close behind him and therefore did not see where he ran to, police said. While officers were searching the area for the suspect, they were approached by a herd of cows willing to reveal the suspect’s whereabouts.

After Minton’s apprehension, the Boone Police Department thanked the officers “for putting themselves in harm’s way” and praised the cows for their assistance in finding Minton, which opens up all kinds of questions as to the bovines’ role in crime fighting.
The department said it is something they haven’t considered until recently and as they examine the “obvious next steps of incorporating a Bovine Tracking Unit” into their law enforcement capabilities, there are several factors to consider, including:
How adaptable cows are to a variety of police work
Whether cows can just find hiding suspects
Whether cows are more cost-effective than K-9 dogs
How cows will be transported cows to the scenes
The cost of training, vet care, ballistic vests, and other expenses.
Why are the Cops still wearing masks ? Balaclava’s to hot to wear all the time ?
Those cows weren’t standing for any bullshite.
I am sure that this is all meant to be a joke, but having grown up with cows, horses, dogs, cats, and a wide variety of other animals... I will say that some cows often appear to be very intelligent and intuitive at times. Herd animals have leaders and followers. When the herd has a bad leader, they can cause all sorts of extra work trying to keep them from destroying fences and raiding neighbor's gardens, fruit trees, and yards.
The bulls can definitely tell the difference when you are taking them on a ride to “service” young good looking heffers or if they are taking their last ride to some less desirable location. I suppose they are good at picking up on subliminal behaviors from people.
Based on what I see and hear of people these days I’ll go with Cow’s being smarter than most humans.
Seeing the stupid crap people do while driving I tell My Wife all the time to remember that We are in the top 5% for intelligence for humanity.
The only reason that the human race has survived this long is because of procreation because there’s just way too many stupid people out there. It’s just a shear numbers game.

I loved on a farm from 1959 to 1965. Cows would single out and posture against any creature disturbing their herd.
No doubt they’d be replaced by robotic cows anyway.
