Sounds like trauma or a type of PTSD. From what I have read (along with a boatload of mandatory college psych classes), it’s not an uncommon trait among those wishing to cause self harm as a result of their low self-esteem stemming from unwanted and forced sexual experiences in their youth. You see that a lot in hookers and strippers as well.

That usually comes later. Many studies report that it all begins with something like date rape or forced sex when they were younger by any number of people including relatives. There is no safe harbor and the mental survivor mode activates.
It probably doesn’t help that when they are young and lovely they get hit on multiple times daily which hammers the already damaged psyche. A lot of that behavior is a result of very poor self image because they have been taken advantage of sexually and otherwise most of their entire life, and they feel “dirty” because of it. If they’re brought up in a very religious atmosphere and that happens, they feel like they’re going to hell and there’s no hope. Classic psychological response and damage.
Yes, earlier abuse is a clear possibility or even probability.

Maybe if your whole life rotates around your looks and they start to fade you cannot stand that loss and lose hope for your future.
However, I also read,

However, I could certainly believe anyone with such a screwed up/nonexistent moral compass would go through life chronically depressed.

Golda Meir once said she was glad she wasn’t born beautiful because she was forced to develop qualities that weren’t reliant on her appearance. She was at the pinnacle of her achievements in her sixties and seventies.
I think that is true.
