On this date in 1945, Waffen-SS officer Hermann Fegelein was shot in the Reich Chancellery’s basement, or else its garden.
“One of the most disgusting people in Hitler’s circle,” in the estimation of Albert Speer, this rank opportunist had found his way there via Heinrich Himmler’s patronage.
On June 3, 1944, Fegelein married right into Hitler’s personal clique by tying the knot with Gretl Braun — sister of longtime Hitler mistress Eva Braun. Hitler and Himmler were both official witnesses.
They had a two-day wedding bash. Then the western allies landed at Normandy....

“Downfall” was a great movie.
Just watched ‘Downfall’ again. The scene where Hitler wanted to know the whereabouts of Fegelein, screaming “Fegelein! Fegelein! Fegelein!” stood out. Was thinking, would hate to be Fegelein right now.
.
Yea, that had to have been a real buzz killer....
And the parodies are even better. Here’s Hitler finding out that Biden is running for re-election. Adolf is not happy about it.

Damn...beat me to it!
Biden thinks he finish the job when he can’t even finish a sentence. CLASSIC!
I would have hated to be a German from about 1914 to 1965....and an East German before 1989.
ROFL!!!
As a postscript, Herman and Gretl’s daughter Eva killed herself in 1971 after her boyfriend died in a car crash. Gretl passed away in 1987 at the age of 72.
I find, personally, having lived in Tel Aviv, that the most (existentially?) funny parody is the rare:

The best one’s are when Fegelein has the whole bunker walking and talking in reverse.
Hermann Fegelein was a totally repulsive character even by SS standards. If he hadn’t ingratiated his way into Hitler’s inner circle no one would have ever heard of him. As bad as the Nazis were no one was more feared in Nazi Germany than Reinhard Heydrich who was the SD chief, head of the Sicherheitsdienst, the intelligence branch of the SS.
Hitler called him ‘’the man with the iron heart’’.
Heydrich had the goods on everybody.
I cannot bring myself to watch the scene with the Goebbels children.
It’s a shame it’s thought more for the parodies, as it’s one of the best movies ever made.
Adolf and Eva, still a better love story than Twilight.
Which is why nobody, except Hitler perhaps, shed a tear when Heydrich bought in Prague, they started spreading rumors that Heydrich was Jewish.
The rumor was that Heydrich knew of Hitler’s Jewish ancestry.
It’s also alleged the SS were either aware of or in cahoots with British intelligence to bump Heydrich off.
What ever the case the poor people of the Czech village of Lidice had to pay the price.
