Hundreds sign up to testify on assault weapons ban during Colorado House hearing

A Colorado House committee on Wednesday began an estimated 12 hours of testimony from approximately 500 witnesses who registered to testify on a bill that would ban the sale of so-called assault weapons in the state.

House Bill 23-1230 would prohibit the manufacturing, importing, purchasing, selling or transferring ownership of an assault weapon. It also would prohibit a person from possessing a rapid-fire trigger activator. Individuals, gun show vendors and licensed firearms dealers would face civil penalties for violating the law.

The bill also would make it a misdemeanor offense to possess, manufacture, import, purchase, sell, offer to sell or transfer ownership of a rapid-fire trigger activator.

Panels of four witnesses testified in person and by teleconference. Members of the House Judiciary Committee asked witnesses questions following their testimony.

I know the Colorado House committee will figure out a way to ignore the voices of the people who are standing up for their Constitutional rights, but it is good that people in that state are paying attention.

____

From the article:

"Hanna Hill, director of research and policy for the National Foundation of Gun Rights, testified the bill must be consistent with the text, history and tradition of the Second Amendment.

“Assault weapons bans will fail in every court where the Supreme Court’s precedent is faithfully applied,” Hill said. “So please be aware if you pass an assault weapons ban, our lawyer is standing by with his finger on the button, ready to file this lawsuit before the ink on the governor’s signature is dry.”"

Yup, and this is exactly what happens when a nation turns its back on God.

If it was good enough for Miss America 1962 to shoot it is good enough for us today!

One thing for damn sure, disarming the American Indians in the 1800s and the German Jews in the 1930s and 1940s made them one Hell of a lot safer. But what the Hell, some people have to learn for themselves and there is a growing number in the United States of America that fits that category. If we just got rid of the guns........ We would be living in a Garden of Eden. They believe. Once the young reach the point that they are the majority, they will do everything in their power to get rid of privately owned firearms.

Great photo and story. Never heard of it before.

I hope the lamestream media will do a followup story to determine and report if Miss America 1962 used the assault rifle to harm anyone.

Seems to me the #1 thing that needs to be done is to define exactly what constitutes an “assault weapon”.

Even the nominee for the ATF director could not do that at his nomination hearing. If he can’t define “assault” weapon, how is anyone else to be able to do so?

“”12 hours of testimony from approximately 500 witnesses””

.

There will be plenty of progs saying stupid crap like this...

“I don’t know what a barrel shroud is. I believe it is the shoulder thing that goes up.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ospNRk2uM3U&t=3s shoulder thing that goes up.”

.

Yep, those “ shoulder things that go up” will kill millions.

.

From the article, “There were six people against the bill for every witness in favor, according to Colorado House Republicans.”

I foresee lost transcripts and muted microphones.

From the article, “There were six people against the bill for every witness in favor, according to Colorado House Republicans.”

The outcome of these "hearings" was determined before they ever started. It was just a show that did not go as well as planned for the Democrats.

But no matter. The Democrats are going to pass this bill anyway. The prospects for derailing it are going to be in the subsequent lawsuit escalated to Federal Courts. It's going to take time and money to do that. I expect "our side" will prevail after the usual appeals. It could take a couple of years.

Democrats do not fear voter reaction. There is a decisive majority of Democrat voters in the Boulder/Denver region who will support whatever they propose. And besides, the Democrats control the ballot counting systems. The rest of the state does not matter in "elections".

Good point.

A rock could be defined as an “assault weapon”.

“define exactly what constitutes an “assault weapon”.

A knife, a baseball bat, a tire iron, etc.

Seems to me the #1 thing that needs to be done is to define exactly what constitutes an “assault weapon”.

The #1 thing that needs to be done is to remove these politicians from any position of authority. "By any means necessary", as the leftists keep telling us.

It is a wasted effort to engage the "gun control" politicians in any form of debate or argument. They don't care what we say. They don't care about clever legal arguments or even laws. It is all about orders and obedience to them.

They will use any deception, misdirection, or outright lie to get us to "compromise" with them. Then they will advance their next restrictive proposal. It does not even stop with firearms. Knives, baseball bats, forks, or even heavy rocks. They want us disarmed and incapable of even thinking about opposition to their orders.

If they are in a strong enough position, they will simply order the police and military to forcibly disarm us. They are not there yet. But they are very open with their intentions.

I see no reason to worry about the exact definition of "Assault Weapons". It is nothing but a distraction.
