Donald Trump Comes out in Support of Disney, Slams Ron DeSantis for Fighting Back
Red State ^ | 04/18/2023 | Bonchie

Posted on 04/18/2023 8:56:34 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

This isn’t an article I thought I’d be writing, but Donald Trump has left me no choice. The former president came out in support of Disney on Tuesday morning, slamming Ron DeSantis for fighting back against the woke multi-national corporation.

That comes a day after DeSantis announced that Disney broke the law in trying to undermine a new state-appointed board put in place to control the company’s special district. The Florida legislature is now moving to void all the last-minute deals made by the old board, and it appears they are on very solid legal ground in doing so.

Yet, in a statement put out on Truth Social, Trump bemoaned the battle against Disney, suggesting that the company would cut investment in Florida and sell all its properties (presumably to move Disney World to another state). As I’ll discuss below, that’s absolutely not going to happen, but first, here’s the post.

Trump surrenders again. Surrenders to donor money. Surrenders to Bud Light. Surrenders to trans. Surrenders to Disney. Weak!

Trump taking Disney’s side in its battle against DeSantis happened just days after Donald Trump Jr. urged conservatives to end an ongoing boycott against Bud Light. In both cases, it appears the Trumps are more worried about donor money than winning important cultural battles. That’s not exactly comforting given Trump is running on fighting and cleaning up Washington, DC. If he can’t stand firm against a company as blatantly woke as Disney, then that calls into question his resolve to face down any serious cultural challenge. If you aren’t even willing to face down Disney, you aren’t going to defeat the deep state.

As to this notion that Florida is going to sell its properties so we should leave them alone, that’s cowardly talk. Disney World and its adjacent properties are twice the size of Manhattan. There are tens of billions of dollars tied up in everything that is built there. Not only would they never find a buyer, but they would never be able to afford to rebuild what they’ve already got in Florida. Never mind that there is essentially nowhere else in the country with the weather necessary except California, and Disney is obviously not going to have just one park in the least business-friendly states in the union.

The reality is that conservatives have near-total leverage over Disney. Trump is suggesting completely giving up all the leverage for nothing in return. Why? One might speculate that it’s because Disney executives donated tens of millions of dollars to Trump in 2020.

I realize pointing this out is going to anger some people who don’t want to face what’s happening, but Trump has a problem when it comes to being kowtowed by donors. The whole “rich people can’t be controlled thing” is a farce because Trump was never going to self-fund a 2024 campaign. I can only judge him by his actions, and the last week has been eye-opening.

The fight against Disney is too important, both politically and culturally, to give up on. There is no more important issue than protecting children. It is not a “political stunt” to try to do so, and if Trump thinks that, that’s a huge red flag.

I realize Trump is just doing the opposite of whatever DeSantis is doing, but that’s not an excuse. The Republican Party needs leaders who will fight the tough battles and follow through even when there are roadblocks and it’s not politically convenient to do so. If Trump isn’t going to be that guy, he doesn’t need to be the 2024 nominee. We’ll see if he offers a course correction.

Well i think he can criticize but he usually effs up when its personal.

There was no reason or pressure to voluntarily step into this fracas.

The way he could have made this work would be to generally support DeSantis and talk about Disneys low moves, and be a bigger man who supports rivals on a shared principle.

But he couldn’t do it. He has to be above pettiness and wanting revenge. He should just ignore DeSantis. The fact he attacks him means he thinks DeSantis NEEDS to be attacked and needs Trumps attention.

Trump just telegraphed DeSantis is worthy of his attention and need to knock him down. Don’t elevate small potatos. Don’t shoot flies with a bazooka.

Just more proof that Trump needs a strong candidate with a proven conservative record to challenge him and make him earn the nomination. Trump has no title to the nomination.

Fifty years ago, i figured out that Disney does what what the Leftists always do which is weaken or destroy the family.

Almost all of their films have the same under theme. Kids want to do something. Parents say no. Kids don’t listen, disobey and sneak off to a wonderful adventure while parents worry.

Eventually keds return home. Parents so worried and glad to have them home safe there is no punishment or consequences.

Even most animated movies have a dark undertheme, which like the human actor movies get across the idea that parents are dummies and disobedience, lies, sneaking away is perfectly 0.K.

Disney is not a culrural asset.

Trump is being really whacko lately.

DS has been completely ineffective, he has been doing ineffective half measures as publicity stunts while leaving Disney all its unfair tax breaks etc.
Trump is right that DS needs to go all in or stop faking it.

A pathetic attempt at attacking President Trump. His post says nothing remotely close to the accusation in this worthless article.
The man simply states the truth. The Desantis ploy WRT Disney was simply a political attempt to appear to be The Man. Not well thought through and effectively countered by Disney.
The Left Virtue Signals with well-calculated intent. RINOs try to Conservative Signal with little effect. Desantis’ ploy is proving to be a failed attempt at the latter.
President Trump instantly recognized this ploy and is Laughing at the result.

Trump knocking DeSantis for being too right-wing on LGBT, Disney, Medicare, Social Security, etc. is interesting.

Next he’ll say DeSantis was pro-vaccine enough.

“ Fifty years ago, i figured out that Disney does what what the Leftists always do which is weaken or destroy the family.”

50 years ago? That was 1973.

What was Disney doing 50 or more years ago to weaken or destroy the family?

If Reagan were alive today, he’d proudly be MAGA America First, he’d be supporting Trump and telling the establishment GOPe they should get off their butts and do the same unless they want to lose every freedom this country ever had, see the nation destroyed, and then wither under Marxist rule!

Reagan was NEVER GOPe,

I would say, let’s just wait and see how it plays out. Trump always seems to be right on these things when they shake out.

I was a big Trump supporter in the last election but he’s becoming less palatable after attacks on other Republicans. He’s shooting himself in the foot almost on a daily basis.

I’m not totally sure, but I do recall in 1970’s Disney had ties with Monsanto at FL site my family went thru the exhibit, Monsanto isn’t family friendly with all the food distortion/harm they do.

I would guess if you really consider Disney shows/animations and things at the theme parks back then they likely had issues.

Just the fact their whole sales pitch is make believe, pretend isn’t very helpful to many kids trying to grow up and having to face reality.

I think that Monsanto had a hydro-phonic tomato operation that produced tomatoes (that tasted like cardboard) in the park.
