I know some think the concept of AI is fool's gold and will amount to nothing, I might be crazy, I think AI's potential for good and evil is astronomical and if left unchecked will usher in incredible changes in our daily lives. My fear is, despite this potential pause of AI development, nothing will change because there will always be some group or government that will go forward with AI development and who knows what the outcome will be.

That’s good, because we wouldn’t want to be trapped in the matrix, would we?!

no way to stop progress. Once something is ready to be invented it will be, there is no stopping it.

I agree with you, the only thing we can do is HOPE as AI technology develops, it can be exposed what the technology can do, if that’s even possible.

Here is one article about the potential of AI for evil purposes.

Collaborations Pharmaceuticals retooled an AI drug discovery system to successfully identify 40,000 new potential chemical weapons in just six hours, according to research that was published in the Nature journal and presented at a recent conference hosted by the Swiss Federal Institute for nuclear, biological and ...

Oh, puhleeze. This is either “give me 6 months to make something better” or; “let’s offshore this” (like with gain of function engineering).

Instead, how about some four (actually five ) laws of robotics? Some actual rules that all AI must have embedded in them or we are going after you with everything possible.

Alternative to that, simply guidelines about what AI MUST NOT PERMIT!!! Aside that, go for it.

Throughout history there have been attempts to stop technological advancements, non have succeeded.

Crazy!!!

if we don’t develop, others will.

I think we need to turn AI’s attention to creating cheap general purpose robots. So a focus on engineering and robotics.

We need other AI’s figuring out security so that our robots can’t be turned against us.

And of course we need safeguards so that people in Chicago can’t use the robots to kill each other.

That’s all fine until people don’t follow the guidelines, remember Fauci went ahead with gain of function research after it was banned, this time the virus was basically nothing compared to what it could have been.

Don’t for a second think countries like China and Russia are not working on similar AI products and they will not be restrained on the research and development.

They won't have to. With no electricity there won't be any household appliances!...................

They are still working out their investment so they will own the thing. Just need six more months.

You and I both know, countries like China will go full speed ahead with AI research and development without constraint.

As others have said, the AI genie is out of the bottle where it goes is anyone’s guess.

Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, even to the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.”

We need to advance as fast as possible, because we may not have much time.
