Donald Trump: ‘I don’t know why anyone needs an AR-15’
Emily Posts News ^ | 03/27/2023 | Emily Miller

Posted on 03/27/2023 5:43:45 PM PDT by Drew68

UPDATE: I did not know about the Nashville school shooting until after I sent out this story. I did not intend to make a political statement of any kind about the victims from the Covenant School. I pray for the families and the school.

As president, Donald Trump privately pushed for banning AR-15-type rifles, according to a new report. Trump was — and is — a big defender of Second Amendment rights. So the new revelation is surprising that he tried to renew the “assault weapon” ban during his first two years in office.

The news about Trump is buried in a lengthy story in The Washington Post on Monday about AR-15 style rifles. The report says he tried multiple times in 2018 and 2019 to get support for a federal “assault-weapon” ban.

The AR-15 is a style of rifle. The FBI crime statistics for 2021 show there were 11,628 people killed by guns, and 447 of them were by rifles of any type. The bureau does not track the style of the rifle.

A spokesman for Trump, who is running for reelection in 2024, did not deny the remarks. From The Post:

Trump’s bipartisan gun control

While this reporting from The Post is from anonymous sources, it lines up with Trump’s public comment in 2018 in a bipartisan White House meeting on gun control measures after the horrific school mass shooting in Parkland, FL.

Trump told Sen. Dianne Feinstein in a live TV meeting that he would look at her “assault weapon” ban bill. It caused an uproar with the pro-gun groups that helped get him elected. I cued up this video to watch him tell her:

NRA protest

The Post reported this meeting and one other in more detail:

Trump supported the NRA in the same 2018 meeting with Feinstein and others (transcript here):

The not agreeing on everything is a reference to the issue of raising the federal minimum age for owning a gun from 18 to 21 years old.

I know one thing, DeSantis understands the cultural marxism is our biggest threat, and he has gone to war against it.

I skimmed your long post and the FYI said nothing about hitched to a conservative legis.

So I was supposed to figure you meant only when the 2 are in tandem?

Write better. We shouldn’t have to read your mind.

And I still only skimmed it again to get the gist.

The AR-15 offers the most ergonomic and artistic gun platform. Ask any Texas hog hunter. Mr Eugene Stoner is a modern day genius like John Moses Browning was. Surprised that Trump had to ask.

“DeSantis is attacking the culture wars”
—————————-
Is that enough for you cowboy?

Will that address the multitude of problems we have? My governor DeWine is doing the same thing as DeSantis, it isn’t even close to enough to be president.

My apologies for not stating the obvious…….

Most would know that ‘supposed’ Republican governors in solid blue states never have conservative legislation to sign because they have democratic legislation only. They are fake conservatives as we all know.

Weird that you failed to acknowledge that there are Republican governors (WITH REPUBLICAN LEGISLATORS for those that can’t ascertain that) who have passed the same conservative legislation as DeSantis. Yet no fawning…….

Trump told aides that he wanted to ban AR-15s, according to people present for the statements.

“I don’t know why anyone needs an AR-15,” Trump told aides as he flew on Marine One to the White House in August 2019, according to a person who heard his comments. …
Yeah right. Same old game the liberal media played and plays, particularly the Compost.

I am ASTOUNDED by the number of Freepers who castigate Donald Trump for not being sufficiently pro-Second Amendment.

Here in California we are perhaps just a handful of days away from a federal judge ruling unConstitutional three major pillars of gun control; the so-called Assault Weapons Ban, the magazine limitations, and the ammo purchase background check law. The Unsafe Handgun Roster law was just recently gutted.

The recent Supreme Court Bruen decision, issued in June of 2022, renders almost all gun control unConstitutional. This was due to the effect that Donald Trump's appointments have made to the Supreme Court. The Bruen decisions was 6-3.

If any of you don't understand the Bruen decision, then you don't understand the marvelous job Trump has done to restore the Second Amendment. I believe that most liberals don't yet have a clue as to what this decision does.

What is vitally important is that the anti-gunners MUST be denied any opportunity to reverse the Bruen decision. That could happen if the 2024 election goes to the Democrats.

cowboyusa:

His record is bad: “ But I want to go in and get the guns first.”
....

This was in response to the parkland h.s. shooting, and cries about why it happened....

“I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida … to go to court would have taken a long time,” Trump said at a meeting with lawmakers on school safety and gun violence.

“Take the guns first, go through due process second,” Trump said.

Trump was responding to comments from Vice President Pence that families and local law enforcement should have more tools to report potentially dangerous individuals with weapons.

This was because Pence had just said:

“Allow due process so no one’s rights are trampled, but the ability to go to court, obtain an order and then collect not only the firearms but any weapons,” Pence said.

Trump: ‘Take the guns first, go through due process second’

Nikolas cruz had just killed 17 people at parkland...

And people were asking, why, with all the warning signs and complaints being made about cruz, nothing had happened.

So, at that time, saying go through the courts first as pence just said, would have taken time, during which someone expressing warning signs could have acted and done something, just like cruz did.

And saying wait for the court to act, would not have sat well with all the non gun people out there.... who also vote.

What is? What did Trump do, does he even understand the threat? Fighting Marxism is serious busniess, we don’t have time for side shows anymore.

Had forgotten all about those horrifying remarks. They were a real eye-opener.

We can do better than Trump but we won’t because so many are blind to his faults and only attack in knee-jerk fashion those who call him out on obvious, persistent mistakes and weaknesses. The Neocon policy towards Ukraine and Russia gets the same automatic response. And no, I’m not a DeSantis fan either.

I asked you a question, please answer:

Is fighting the culture wars enough? Specifically, is there anything else you want DeSantis to do as president?

Forget Trump, let’s just focus on DeSantis and exactly what you want or expect he will do as president.

And while you’re at it, AFTER YOU ANSWER THE QUESTION ABOVE, what laws do you want DeSantis to pass as president concerning the culture wars? And specify if those laws will apply to all citizens or federal employees only as well as all schools or just pulling federal funding from public schools refusing to abide? Specify what the law(s) would do specifically and who it will effect specifically. Please specify each culture issue as well. Ex. Drag shows, CRT, pornographic books, transgender, bathrooms and anything else you want him to address.

“Trump had 10 vetoes, none of which I know of were gun control bills.”

My bad. He threatened to veto two gun control bills passed by the House. The bills never made it through the Senate.

Mostly laws that he has passed. But also articulation of why Marxism in all it's forms is so dangerous. And a trust in GOD to beat it. Reagan had that faith to take down the USSR part of Marxism.
