Trump lashes out at DeSantis, says he regrets his endorsement of him

Former President Donald Trump is intensifying his attacks on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, calling him disloyal and saying that his political career would have been over had he not endorsed his ultimately successful 2018 campaign.

“He was dead as a dog, he was a dead politician. He would have been working perhaps for a law firm or doing something else,” Trump told a small group of reporters aboard his plane on Monday afternoon en route to Iowa, where he was to make an appearance that evening.

Trump spent nearly ten minutes going after DeSantis, who is widely viewed as his most formidable challenger for the Republican nomination. The Florida governor, who is expected to launch his campaign following the end of the state’s legislative session in May, has been embarking on a swing of early primary states to promote his newly released memoir — including in Iowa, where he appeared on Friday.

Trump knows the insider career politicians lined up to stab him in the back from day one. No different here.

Such a mob here.

Trump is right. As usual

The other day I shared an article with a friend who always says women hate trump. Trump is leading RDS by 40 with women voters.

Please elaborate on what Ron Desantis has said or done against Donald Trump?

He doesn’t have to attack Trump, his acolytes are doing the dirty work for the Florida Kid.

QUOTE that I was replying to:

Why he would choose this round about manner instead of just retiring, I could not tell you.
....

The poster stated he should retire instead of doing exactly what Trump did in 2015/2016 campaign when he was being spied on by your nation ..
And what he did in his 4 years as President..

Trump is not a different guy when he went after the Rs in 2015/16..

The GOP is going to force him to do it especially if DeSantis is popular enough to take a chunk of voters with him when he loses the knock-down, drag-out primary. The republican electorate will be spoiled. Many will stay home because they are mad at what Trump did to DeSantis and the opposite would be true of course. Trump voters will stay home after The GOP turns on the democrat cheat machine to defeat Trump in the primaries. Either way, The GOP are setting us up to lose, their very favorite thing to do in the whole world.

Why would you think hard core Trump lovers wouldn’t vote for the nominee....just because it’s not Trump. Or are Republicans now that stupid.

Trump seems spiteful enough to run third party/independent if DeSantis (or anyone else) beats him in the GOP primary next year. I think he will flip his lid if he loses.

We’ll have to disagree about the making an ass of himself.

Some freepers have very good manners and would not feel right lashing out at anyone in private life. If someone criticized them in a social situation, they would let it ride, or make a joke.

These are unusual circumstances, however. And this is politics, not ordinary day-to-day life.

I think he’s doing the exactly right thing in the circumstances.

Uh, no - you said he said Trump was “the problem” - conflating completely different things and that is not what he was saying or talking about. Now you are trying to do the same tactic again with your reply to me. Not playing along and being driven into a secondary argument. Used to be the tactic the Left used commonly - now it is on our side as well, apparently.

DeSantis is a very good governor. So Trump is saying he regrets endorsing the guy who turned out to be the best governor in the country?

I think you are correct on this one.

However, and this is not coming from me but from political pundits, Democrats will go vote for their nominee no matter who it is. Republicans will simply not vote at all if their guy doesn’t get the nomination.

If either DeSantis or Trump supporters decide to pick up their ball and go home then it’s over for Republicans on both sides. America will end up a one party state like California (where there are more Republicans than in any other state).

I would vote for either of them.

Vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley are probably out for consolation prizes as Secretary of the Treasury and Secretary of State, respectively.

The topic I was replying to was the ‘retire’ comment, but if you want to replay to the ‘problem’ it was this part of the previous comment..

Quote
Trump is the sole participant in this Demolition Derby.
The “Prize”?
Increased scorn, confusion and exasperation by former (very enthusiastic) supporters.
...

See, Trump is the problem with that premise, yes?

You may not agree boss, but I don’t have to make you happy, snappy.

Which is why I said he is running to piss the right people off, like Liz Cheney, and former supporters, apparently.

And people like you too.

Enjoy the campaign season!

Even if DeSantis were to win the nomination, he cannot win the general election without Donald Trump’s hardcore supporters.

Tell that to Governor Brian Kemp, safely re-elected even after Trump endorsed Stacey Abrams.

Kemp brought the MAGA crowd home, on top of many moderate and independent Georgians who voted for Trump in 2016 only to abandon him in 2020.

DeSantis will do the same.

Scum??? You are losing 30 percent of the base.

Trump has ZERO road to 270. It’s over....

Trump can’t win the general election without his base and he is losing his base with his out-of-control ego and his stupid pettiness.

DeSantis has a record of MAGA achievements, strong leadership, and personal likability, which would easily win him the general election.
