On March 1, the U.S. tentatively approved the sale $600 million in hi-tech weapons to Taiwan for its U.S.-made F-16 aircraft.
The weapons sale would impress anyone familiar with 21st century air to air combat. Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles. AGM-88B High Speed Anti-Radiation (HARM) missiles to destroy communist Chinese land-based radars guiding attacking Peoples Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) jets.
Attacking is that last sentence’s critical word. On March 1, 19 PLAAF aircraft violated Taiwan’s air defense identification zone (ADIZ). They were bluffing attacks.
Land radars would play key roles in a communist Chinese assault on the island. Taiwan’s American-supplied HARM missiles would have to hit targets on mainland China.
The arc is clear. Beijing’s military aircraft regularly and provocatively crosses the Taiwan Strait median line (the middle of the 110-mile wide strait). Communist China has become more belligerent and in the not so distant future will attack Taiwan and provoke a major war in the western Pacific.
Aircraft and missiles alone won’t defeat a CCP invasion. Stopping Beijing will require a bitter ground battle against invading ground forces – amphibious and airborne.

China may have a billion people, but how many of them are willing to drown in the Taiwan Strait over this?
No one ever mentions what the Taiwanese think. They may not fully agree with of all this US media and neocon arm-chair strategery
This is a way for China to reverse engineer our weapons.
There will be no war. At least not between the US and China.
But the spending is a necessary distraction.
Bread and circuses continue.
Answer: As many as it takes.
The big question though is WHY? Why is the ccp so anxious to take Taiwan? Somebody break that down for me. Is it merely the “principal” of the thing to them?
Seems more than a little bit insane to me.
“The big question though is WHY? Why is the ccp so anxious to take Taiwan? Somebody break that down for me. Is it merely the “principal” of the thing to them?”
Partially. To really understand it, this goes back to the old dynasties of China. They had a longstanding belief, similar to the old European idea about the “divine right of kings”, called the “mandate of heaven”. For them, a good ruler, or dynasty (which translates nowadays as a good ruling party, which the CCP wants Chinese people to see them as) would manifest that they have this “mandate of heaven” to rule the country, by being successful at things like securing the borders, having bountiful harvests, etc. Basically succeeding with their domestic policies was how they proved that they were the ones properly chosen to rule, and not some other competing dynasty.
Well, the Taiwanese are essentially a competing dynasty to the CCP. And if the CCP can’t show that they have the “mandate of heaven”, then the Chinese people might be strongly tempted to revolt and turn to the Taiwanese as the ones who really have been chosen to rule. But if the CCP can eliminate that competing dynasty, then there is no alternative to turn to, and then the CCP doesn’t have to worry so much about proving they have the “mandate of heaven”.
“Stopping Beijing will require a bitter ground battle against invading ground forces – amphibious and airborne”.
Not if the US and Japan intervene.
China would never get a man ashore.
No doubt that we’re headed for Armageddon.
Allow Taiwanese to enlist in our military. Train them on systems specific to what Taiwan would need. Let them go back at any time deemed necessary. They can then choose between US or Taiwan citizenship when their enlistment is up.
We should have been doing this with Ukrainians all along. It would have set a big trap for the Russians. If only Pearl Harbor was prepared.
The Kumintong were our allies in WWII, often fighting against both the PLA and the Japanese. They were the ones who helped Doolittle and his men after they crashed in China after bombinh Tokyo, and this led to the horrors of Nanjing.
Taiwan is still the REAL China. The CCP cannot tolerate this.
“Allow Taiwanese to enlist in our military.”
Well, I see one flaw with this plan. Even though Taiwan is (unofficially) our ally, they are not US. They still spy on us, and we spy on them. And China definitely has infiltrators and collaborators inside Taiwan, so China could be spying through them on us as well. So we might not want to make that easier for them.
The CCP cannot allow any region of their domain to
practice unfettered capitalism and dispute communist rule.
Others might get ideas, others might try it, others might
succeed. One only need consider Hong Kong.
We only have 350 million but how many are willing to die for Taiwan, which we officially ambiguously recognize as part of China.
“others might succeed”
That’s what I think really bothers them, that Taiwan has been very successful with their limited resources, compared to China with her virtually unlimited resources. The old test of the “mandate of heaven” was that the ruler was successful. If Taiwan is more successful than the CCP, then Taiwan is the rightful ruler, under that kind of belief system, which still lingers in the Chinese psyche today.
And the flipside of the “mandate of heaven” is that, if a ruler has the mandate, then obeying them is your duty. But if they lose the mandate, then rebelling against them is seen as a righteous cause.
Wrong. You beat an island nation with a blockade. An air tight blockade and the Taiwanese give up in 4 months.
World War III or IV first
Then 7 years of ‘Peace and Security’
Then the real Armageddon

From my experience with Taiwanese men they are milksops. There is a mandatory draft but the kids don’t even hold a weapon in training.
