Bit stay the f away from.
Why did everyone bring so much plastic bags with them?
Probably for carrying party favors. ‘Bacchus parade’ suggests a party is about to happen...
How will pinkos blame white people?
Jim Backus?
Some friends are heading to N.O. for Mardi Gras. I hope they know what they’re getting into.
Here in Los Angeles I’m in by 9 pm with the doors locked tight.
Mardi Gras? Never.
Probably a chimp and a porcupine.
I’m 74 years old and was born and raised in New Orleans and now live in the suburbs. I used to love to go to Mardi Gras when I was younger but you couldn’t pay me to go now.
I have a relative who is a well known artist and nonviolence advocate and lives near the music village has had his neighbors car stolen his child’s toys stolen and car broken into during the past few weeks
I used to think Mardi Gras might be fun but it looks trashy, crowded and unsafe.
Compare this to Carnivale in Venice Italy and it is a dramatic difference.
[ as seen on videos and live cams]
I have never been to Mardi Gras, and thirty years ago, might have enthusiastically gone to it, but would never in a million years go now.
Every float the Krewe of Bacchus runs has masked members throwing out throws (beads, cups, dabloons, little footballs,etc.). These all come in bags which unfortunately end up in the street. Yesterday was the first day of carnival and this close to Mardi Gras a lot of Krewes are running parades. Bacchus was the 4th parade on that route yesterday. That is why all the plastic bags.
Back in the 80s and 90s there were parades on the weekends well before Mardi Gras - officially the season started on Twelfth Night (January 6) but if Mardi Gras came late, the parades wouldn’t get going for a couple of weeks.
People start camping out early for good positions in the parade route and leave their trash right there. There’s a trash can/ emptying shortage. Parade crowds will leave their trash right there, it’s hard to maneuver through the crowd. Float riders often dump their trash into the street. It’s just trashy over all. Clean up starts after the parade and they weigh the garbage.
Yesterday?
Exactly, the Mardi Gras season starts after Epiphany. With 64 Krewesrunning parades it is a lot to get in when Ash Wednesday is early like this year. They all end with Rex parade tomorrow
