Son of the artist and late former Beatle John Lennon launches website as Ringo Starr and Elton John send wishes
Yoko Ono’s son has created a virtual “wish tree” to mark his mother’s 90th birthday on Saturday and is encouraging people to plant real trees in her honour.
Since creating her first wish tree installation in 1996, Ono has collected almost 2m wishes from more than 200 trees in 35 countries. People are invited to write personal wishes for peace and tie them to a branch.
“As a child in Japan, I used to go to a temple and write out a wish on a piece of thin paper and tie it around the branch of a tree,” she said. From a distance, the wishes “looked like white flowers blossoming”.
Sean Ono Lennon, the son of Yoko Ono and John Lennon, is launching a website, www.wishtreeforyokoono.com, “to give the whole world an opportunity to make a wish”. He said: “My mother is a real life tree-hugger. If we ever walk past a tree of any significance she inevitably stops and hugs the tree with incredible enthusiasm.

She still alive?
Technically, she is “undead”.
I wish she had taken some singing lessons instead of playing with Lennon’s head.
Are you sure you wanted her to have more confidence singing?
Is this a Yoko Ono music thread?
I’m still mad at Yoko Ono for breaking up the Beatles. But Sean Lennon seems like a good guy, and planting trees is a good idea. Much betterthat donating money to some woke lib cause.
So thumbs up.
Nope.. just recognition of her birthday and the general passage of time. Also I share Yoko’s enthusiasm as an arborist...
Plant a tree “in her honor”?
If I did, it would have to be a Cactus tree, something surrounded with spiky bristles.
I could always see the appeal of her because she was a really down to earth woman who would try anything, but the shrieking performances were a bit much. Imitating Hillary Clinton giving a speech hardly qualifies as entertainment or art.
Can we plant poison ivy Instead?
I don’t think she broke them up. I use to think that, but I think what happened is after their manager died, Paul McCartney took position of being the “boss” and the rest of them got fed up with it. That’s why when they did break up, John, George, Ringo still played together but without Paul.
The picture was taken in 1990?
She’s an eccentric personality and that is almost certainly what Lennon liked about her. She was never a crowd follower and at the time Lennon met her he was tired of ‘the crowd.’
In the movie Get Back, McCartney states something to the effect that people will think they broke up because Yoko sat on a speaker. McCartney & Lennon broke their rules about bringing girlfriends/wives to the recording studio. There’s even a clip with McCartney playing while Yoko sang (screamed). I think the Yoko angle gets overplayed as Paul played a role in getting John & Yoko back together after John’s lost weekend.
Her voice has such great range.
She’s actually held up pretty well... doubt she has had any plastic surgery.
>>wish she had taken some singing lessons instead of playing with Lennon’s head.<<
No number of singing lessons could have helped her. Tone deaf, no voice and dumber than a bag of hammers.
Somehow I don’t think if Zappa was still alive he would have wished her a Happy Birthday.
