I think the first balloon was a fiasco for the Biden Administration and he told the military to shoot down anything remotely suspicious and do it as early as possible.

I don’t think the Government is staging them, I think they are put up by various people and organizations in the USA.

For example, occasionally Ham Radio Clubs and Operators float a balloon with tracking device in order to see how long they can track it.

Here’s a video of two guys doing this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bg3Vnf89uQ0

These guys have had one of their balloons circle the globe following the prevailing wind currents.

This is just two guys with a homemade balloon, others are more sophisticated.

I think the Military is being hypervigilant and picking these things up and detecting their transmissions and shooting them down.

This is why the military is worrying they haven’t picked some of these up before they entered US airspace, the reason is they were launched inside US Airspace.

If I’m right and if it ever comes out, think of how stupid our military will look along with Biden, sending a 100 million aircraft and shooting down a homemade balloon with a $400,000 rocket.

They already look stupid - this would just make the fiasco all the more embarrassing.

Well, yes, I suppose our military will look stupid, and deservedly so. Still, the corporation with the contract to replace the $400,000 rocket will be happy. And that's pretty much all that counts nowadays, when one is speaking of national, um, "defense."

Grifters come in all shapes and sizes.

Whole thing smacks of a false flag setup.

Balloon launches involve notifying the FAA prior to launch and immediately prior to launch to ensure no issues with commercial and military aircraft.

To launch without such notification is very dangerous and no doubt illegal.

Not sure how else government can deal with such activities other than what they have been doing.

True, but if it is something from China, and our military doesn’t go after it, then think how much outrage people will have over them for not doing anything. Just last week, people were screaming about them letting that balloon fly from Montana to South Carolina.

So they’re stupid if it’s nothing, but incompetent if it is some spy device or weapon. And when it comes to our defense, I could understand them using caution and shooting it down.

I think Biden is being reactionary and trying to cover for his previous Big Mistake.

When you launch a high altitude balloon you are supposed to file a notice/plan with the FAA. Did this when I helped my wife launch a balloon for a class she was teaching.

Good catch.

We have to remember, this is the same administration that falsely identified a humanitarian worker as a terrorist in Afghanistan and sent a drone strike to kill him and all the children running to greet him.

That’s true but is there an active chapter in Prudhoe Bay that I don’t know about? (Referencing Deadhorse object and Yukon? One).
