A spike in the number of deaths in recent weeks has disrupted funeral arrangements and put mortuaries under unprecedented stress.
An Irish Examiner analysis of death notices on the website rip.ie shows there were 9,718 published in the eight-week period from December 1, 2022, to January 25, 2023 — up 20% from 8,075 in the same period a year earlier.
The figure is also considerably higher than the 8,135 death notices published in the same period to January 25, 2021, when the country was in the grip of the worst period of the Covid pandemic.
Pre-pandemic, 6,802 death notices were published in the eight weeks to January 25, 2019, almost 3,000 fewer than in recent weeks.
The death rate in Cork has been so high in the last two months that bodies had to be stored in the city’s hospitals until space became available at the Cork City Morgue.
“Between the 19th of December and the 3rd of January, over 100 deaths were reported to my office,” Philip Comyn, coroner for Cork city, told the Irish Examiner.

Safe and effective
One of the nicer places to visit in Europe. I spent altogether about a month there installing and programming some CNC grinders at a J&J plant making artificial knees. The guys from there were great and when they came to our plant in SC for the pre-delivery runoff, I took them to a gun range where they had a blast. Just one piece of advice..... Never match drinks with an Irishman.
That Climate Change must be getting bad. Or something.
The Irish are big egg eaters... that’s probably it.
People seem to just keep accepting that "stuff happens."
Absolutely. A very nice place to visit. I spent a couple of weeks there for work. I loved how they start their weekend on Thursday night. I didn’t get much sleep but man was it fun.
Med-cram had an interesting video on the cause of excess deaths.
During the start of the pandemic there was a large drop in cancer screenings and cancer referrals. That’s resulted in more cancer deaths.
They also looked at cardiovascular and vax related excess deaths.
But I stopped watching.
But I remember Ireland was one of the 3 countries with the largest drop in cancer screenings.
Prolly one too many pints . . .
I would like to see the immigration status and demographics of the dead. Ireland has been relentlessly invaded thanks to their woke idiot ‘leaders.’
