Well, he was always like that. As far as I know, he is the only General in US history who declared war on us veterans. And he didn’t even have approval of the Commander in chief.
Modernize is the U.S. version ; Modernise is the British version.
You can argue about his military abilities, but his greatest achievement was seeing through Japan’s post-WWII transformation. My grandfather was on his staff there, and his diaries attest to your observation.
But really, being critical of someone who is just a poster for making a mistake of hitting 2 keys at the same time (re) which reside next to each other on the keyboard, and not adding the apostrophe to indicate possession, is being just a little too critical in my view.
It's different when someone who is a professional does it, yet we see these same types of errors, and even worse.
Most of us try to type clean responses, yet we all make mistakes at times. Being a perfectionist is a goal. How many times one can carry off perfection sometimes falls short of their own goal.
His point was to pay homage to Gen. Douglas MacArthur, and to pose a question as food for thought. I for one found it to be a refreshing post, despite the two errors, one that I missed due to my impaired eyesight, which I sincerely hope you never experience. Because it's a pain in the rear-end. 🙂
He had an 8 hour heads up when Pearl Harbor was attacked. It was midnight Manilla time. The soldiers I’m sure were drunk or asleep.
I’m in!
Having said that, you’d of thought Kellyanne Conway woulda been doing that very thing. 😏
Well, you are correct I don’t. He does give the appearance of it however, and has done so many times. On the other hand though, he has been brutally honest with his attacks upon others. So, will the real Donald John Trump please stand up. 🙂
Well, she was seen out with Cuomo at a restaurant recently, so....🙂
Reality. His campaign attacked places that should have been bypassed and starved. Places that could have never been a risk to the US forces that bypassed them.
from what I’ve seen, that’s everyone in the Star Club.
No, I know a few good ones. But Betray-us is in a class all his own.
One if America’s greatest mistakes was to dismiss MacArthur & LeMay’s requests to NUKE the PLA and Nork forces, consolidating north if t bg e Yaku River in 1950(?) If we had totally wasted Mao at that time the world would be far more stable place today . No Vietnam War and how much else?
Imagine if all males were B type, Beta males. It won't be long until that becomes the reality, at least in theory, and alpha females take over. Lord help humanity when that happens. 🙂
“Wrest Point”?
And you were there to witness this.
I don’t recall any contest between Nimitz and MacArthur. I do not put too much stock in revisionists who suddenly come up with one.
“To what extent are Donald Trump’s weaknesses (compared with DeSantis) like those of MacArthur compared with Ike?”
It constantly amazes me that people like to point out that Trump has faults and weaknesses. I suppose in their little minds that DeSantis is the first leader in world history that is faultless and has no weakenesses.
People just don’t say, “I like Trump,” they always preface it with, “Although he has his faults, I like Trump.”
It just goes to show the brainwashing being done to the American sheeple.
> His campaign attacked places that should have been bypassed and starved. <
Yep. For example, we really didn’t need to retake the Philippines. But we did anyway, mainly so MacArthur could fulfill his famous “I shall return” pledge to the Filipinos. It was a waste of resources and blood.
On the other hand, I read somewhere that MacArthur lost less men during the entire Pacific war than Eisenhower did at the Battle of the Bulge. The author’s point (if it’s true) was that MacArthur was careful to avoid casualties.
So I guess there’s that.
.
It is hard to make that case since the Japanese had no intention of surrendering until the second atomic bomb was dropped and were even equivocal then until they learned that Russia has entered the war against them.
About 2 or 3 years ago I read and account of the Battle for Manila by Max Hastings I think. One of the most brutal books on W.W. II I ever read. The atrocities committed by the Japanese were so ming mind boggling that I had to read the book in stages so my mind could comprehend what happened. That might not have happened if the Philippines had been bypassed.
Best book I ever read on MacArthur was William Manchester’s American Caesar.
"Endearing" him?
"Under" him?
