How can you even discuss reducing SS/Medicare benefits when we are sending over $100B a year to Ukraine; giving welfare to millions of illegals, refugees & poor migrants; paying people not to work while the working class breaks its back; and funding bureaucrats who detest us? NO.

“no one is reducing either....how many times do they have to say it...”

Seems you’re not listening to McConnell, Ryan and Romney. They all call for cutting SS and Medicare.

Also, McConnell’s right hand man, Thune. Just two weeks ago he told Bloomberg we need to cut these programs.

No one is talking about reducing these programs? Lindsey Graham begs to differ:

There is no “Trust Fund.”

That money was spent before it was even sent to the Treasury.

It’s just a bunch of IOUs in a cabinet.

Very easily if you’re Deep State.

They don’t give a damn what we think.

And unless we restore the republic, they don’t have to, do they...

“It’s just a bunch of IOUs in a cabinet.”

Like all government bonds, including any Treasuries you or your IRA may hold. Congress spends the money you lend them with a promise - an IOU - to pay back with interest
The only difference is that they’ve pledged a lower interest payback rate on the Social Security money they have borrowed and spent. And now they want to default on much of the promise by persuading Americans to accept lowered benefits. I wouldn’t accept that lying ripoff on my TBills and conservatives should stop justifying it with Social Security.

Yes, you did pay into SS & Medicare. In SS’s case the money went out the door to fund the monthly SS of the then retirees. In return you got an “IOU” that when you retire you were “entitled” to the money the current working generation is paying in. Note the money you paid in never became your money - your asset. You lost ownership when the government took the money! There have been several USSC decisions saying you have no ownership right (Not an asset!) in the money. If it did it could become part of your estate. It can’t, it isn’t your money.

In short, the SS tax is a tax, like any other tax. So far, the political will exists to execute the part of the law that says when you retire the government honors the IOU. The day may come when it won’t. Since its a tax - revenue to the government that they turn around and send to another demographic (just older!). It sounds a lot like programs where the government takes from the working and sends to those not working. Well, I’ll call it ‘wealth redistribution’; people have other names for that.

Past USSC decisions said this ‘wealth redistribution’ was Constitutional. Since its a past USSC decision it could now be used as a ‘precedent’. (Personally, I don’t see it! One of those FDR Era decisions, I guess you had to be there!) I think this ‘precedent’ gave Roberts the model to declare ZeroCare Constitutional.

SS is a Ponzi Scheme; they don’t end well! In 1940 159.4 workers paid in for every retiree receiving, today it’s like 2.4 to 2.8 (2013-2014 number) working paying in for every recipient.

Then get mental help. It was a simple statement and relevant to the article.

I really doubt you know the meaning of the words you mouth like a dummy.

I think Steve’s assertion is based on taking care of America first. A concept you seem not to grasp. Our resources are finite. Well, unless of course, you believe in reckless deficit spending. Calling me a dummy? Wow, what a cerebral and articulate rebuke.

It’s not about Social Security vs. Defense. It’s about Social Security vs. the many useless and harmful anti-family “partnership” programs with the states started by the Clintons along with much of the other deadwood in big government. Public education, for one, is too big, expensive and meddlesome.

Communist/fascist nations expand very quickly if allowed to do so, and most people in both political parties are going to stand against that. We’re not going to allow another world war rampage to get out of hand before stopping it with many more lives and far greater expenses. And we’re not going to sit idly by to allow greater nuclear weapons buildups by those communist/fascist bully nations.

If you get far enough with pitting Social Security against Defense, you’re going to lose Social Security to a late, WW2-like buildup and war.

There were pushes to cut regular Social Security pensions in the late ‘70s and ‘80s. One result was the cutting of many disability cases instead. Defense, though, was built up much.

Defense cuts are not going to happen. Social Security won’t be cut, either. Other social and regulatory programs will eventually be cut.

“SS is a Ponzi Scheme”

No more than the rest of government spending, including the defense budget and TBill repayments to bond holders. All this spending relies on continued infusions of dollars from taxpayers. If the tax money stopped coming in, the spending couldn’t continue. That’s the “Ponzi” element of EVERYTHiNG government does, from paying Social Security benefits to paying Marine Corps salaries.

No ship Sherlock. I question the sanity and/or honesty of anyone who doesn't recognize Zelinsky for the grifter and gangster that he is.

Maybe you’d be more credible if you didn’t launch into childish and delusional accusations of everyone who disagrees with you.

I’m sick of the deluded dopes who call everyone a Biden or Soros supporter if they don’t support Russia invading Ukraine.

So someone who doesn’t agree with you on Ukraine is dishonest?

Does not compute.

Socialism at its finest. Take money from people who worked for it and give it to people who did not.
