Ukraine got their money’s worth buying Hunter and the big guy... that said the next ‘war’ will be with cartels who have propositioned their armies.

So a system designed to produce a minimum at maximum expense is having trouble supplying a real conflict. Duh.

Simply a failure to build more capacity to produce 155mm. We're talking WWI tech here. The complexity of the computer guided systems is an issue, but again all it needs is some intelligent attention, although that is sorely lacking in the current procurement system.

From the article:

The report estimated that Ukraine is firing 143,000 shells a month or close to 4,700 rounds each day. This is unsustainable for the United States. Other militaries among the allied coalition will have to step in at some point to be the sources for artillery rounds

The United States budget is bloated with billions, perhaps trillions of dollars spent (do we actually have the money or is it just printed?) on frivolous stuff and wokeness.

It's all a matter of priorities and politics.

We could easily go to three shifts at the existing armories or even add more armories.

I don't think we'll actually run out, but we could find ourselves pressed against the wall and have to drop other important things to fix the issue.

If you look at the history of the United States, when it comes to defense, this is nothing at all new.

In the Louisiana Maneuvers (War Games) of 1941, which Patton won, BTW, as the opposition commander, many of our troops had to drive cars or trucks with cardboard signs on them saying "Tank" and some troops had broom sticks for machine guns.

Of course, after Dec 7th of the same year, we went on a crash course to make stuff. To today's democrats, we did it before, we can do it again--until we can't. Best get to work, Biden!

How did DOD fail to maintain mandatory minimum inventory for our own defenses?

“What utter tripe. It’s the Russians that are running out of stuff including people.”

Doesn’t work that way as the Russians have ADULTS running their military, not the Leftist Children that we’re stuck with. The Adults there do the math BEFORE committing resources, not after.

...and we can’t, since we’ve OUTSOURCED much of our defense production base (low-level items such as electronic components, rare-earths, and raw materials) - much of it to Russia and China, so they won’t be in much of a hurry to help us. Wasn’t the case in previous wars.

"The ability to produce and supply millions of artillery rounds and more millions of bombs is the deciding factor."

I think that time, distance, energy, and manufacturing we'll decide to sworn it is in Russia's favor.

The defence industry of Russia is a strategically important sector and a large employer in the country. Russia has a large and sophisticated arms industry, capable of designing and manufacturing high-tech military equipment, including a fifth-generation fighter jet, nuclear powered submarines, firearms, and short range/long range ballistic missiles. It is the world's second-largest exporter of arms, behind only the United States.

It has been widely described as an energy superpower;[31] as it has the world's largest natural gas reserves,[32] the second-largest coal reserves,[33] the eighth-largest oil reserves,[34] and the largest oil shale reserves in Europe.[35] It is the world's leading natural gas exporter,[36] the second-largest natural gas producer,[37] and the second-largest oil exporter,[38] and producer.[39] Russia's foreign exchange reserves are the world's fourth-largest.[40] It has a labour force of roughly 70 million people, which is the world's sixth-largest.[41] Russia is the world's second-largest exporter of arms.[42] Russia also has the world's fifth-largest number of billionaires.

Putin Is Smiling: Is America Running Out Of Ammo To Send To Ukraine?

Putin is in for a disappointment, the Fed Alphabet Agencies have billions of rounds they're saving to use on Americans.

“How did DOD fail to maintain mandatory minimum inventory for our own defenses?”

Easy, they claimed a protracted, high intensity, ground war was “non-credible”. Therefore much smaller inventories needed.

The Russians weren’t as STUPID.

The IRS bought up plenty.

They could send it on over.

$850 billion a year for Defense - and USA is running out of basic 155 artillery shells, HIMARS, TOW missiles and lots of other basic gear after a mere 10 months in Ukraine - with NO US troops involved????

Just more proof of the absolute bloated, insider waste and corruption of Fed.gov, of which DOD is the worst offender.

The DoD was probably busy making sure military members and civilian employees were up to date on the newest CBTs on diversity, equity, inclusion, and the latest pronouns.

See my comment number 24. Time, industry, distance, and natural resources favor Russian in the Ukraine War. People seem to forget that rush is the #2 to arms exporter in the world and they can make a lot of military hardware quickly.

And Russia is not going to run out of gas, they are the largest exporter of energy in the world. They have far more than they need.

Those pretty pictures of C-17’s, Jerod, are nice, but our problem is that we’re quickly running out of anything to put in them.

Nah... I’m pretty sure that America has enough soldiers, equipment and weapons to fight a war anywhere in the world, at any time.

“what if America has to fight a war?”

Darn, you mean we might have to wait a few more years to invade some other country in the Middle East?

“China should pounce now...”

I think if we have to fight China, the whole war will be decided on the seas, not with 155mm howitzers.
