The Attack on Things That Work
Commentary ^ | January 10th, 2023 | Noah Rothman

Some of the bluest states in the nation have committed themselves to war with the most efficient appliances in your home: natural gas-powered heaters, furnaces, and stoves.

In September, California announced a new rule passed unanimously by the thoroughly undemocratic California Air Resources Board (CARB). It will outlaw the sale of natural-gas heaters at the beginning of the next decade. New York’s newly reelected Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul proposed a similar initiative this month, which would ensure that the Empire State constructs only “climate-friendly electric homes” by 2027. The first step on the long march involves a ban on the use of oil or gas for residential water heaters, furnaces, and stoves.

Now, the federal government is getting in on the act, but it’s not being so honest about what it hopes to achieve by anathematizing your gas-powered appliances. It’s not about the environment. At least not exclusively. It’s an effort to safeguard your health, which you would recklessly imperil if you were left to your own foolish devices.

In a shockingly advantageous coincidence for meddlesome bureaucrats, it turns out your gas stove is as bad for the environment as it is for your lungs. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recently discovered that these age-old appliances, which are in use in about 40 percent of American homes, produce harmful levels of nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, and particulates. Recent studies (like those cited by California officials in their quest to ban gas appliances) also found that natural gas stoves and ovens leak carcinogenic benzene into the atmosphere, exposure to which is unsafe at any level. Other studies maintain that gas stoves have contributed to a measurable increase in childhood asthma cases.

Seems like some new "science" just discovered natural gas is bad for us. Funny, the euroweenies just discovered that too.

The NWO has spoken.

I was surprised how quickly it went from ‘study shows’ to ‘ban all gas stoves.’ These people can’t be taken seriously.

California...will outlaw the sale of natural-gas heaters at the beginning of the next decade.

OH Good. This ought to put more pressure on the already strained-to-the-limit electrical grid.

I expect the rolling blackouts to last for days, if not weeks, instead of hours - during our summer heatwaves where temps easily reach 105 degrees or higher.

How are people supposed to drive their "climate friendly" EV's when I get alerts every few hours (during heat waves) NOT to plug them in?

Because reasons.

I keep getting a vision of the final scene in The Matrix, where Neo opens the door to answer the phone, and Agent Smith is standing there.

That is what these jackwads NEED.

I will not comply with any directive to adhere to this idiotic and arbitrary nonsense.

No, new study does not link gas stoves with asthma in children
https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4122448/posts

Excerpt:
There are no allergens in natural gas.

So the study has no biological plausibility.

No one knows what causes asthma in children and so competing causes could not be ruled out.

The claim that gas stoves are responsible for 12% of childhood asthma - an epidemioogic concept called “attributable risk” - is entirely bogus because epidemiological studies can only be used to associated exposures with disease. They cannot be used to determine risk of disease because
(1) the underlying data is not representative of the population; and
(2) epidemiologic studies cannot be used by themselves to determine cause-and-effect relationships.

Cooking on an electric range is superior, said no professional chef ever.

...and yet, here we are marching off to ban gas powered appliances... go figure...

My mother hated electric stoves... felt she had far less control over the heat.

Doesn’t practically all of New England rely on gas for heat in winter? I know the UK does. Hell, I do out here in California. Also here in CA we have made huge investments in gas powered transportation...

Its just an other way to lessen demand for fossil fuels, like EVs lessen demand for ICE vehicles. Its all about turning the country back to the 1800s without the amenities.

Same here. Anyone who os a real cook knows this. And fire cooking always tastes better too. It’s been the staple of Burger King’s advertising for years, for example.

The only thing preferable about electric stoves is if you get one that is flat glass top for easier cleanup. Even then, I still always use gas.

What about gas furnaces. With forced gas furnaces, it uses the same fuel and to a much higher volume.

“Its just an other way to lessen demand for fossil fuels”

That’s the motive behind the claim.

I wonder how many professional chefs including hamburger flippers have had excessive health problems.

Apparently, in a thread yesterday, gas stoves disproportionally affect people of color too. Who knew??

I was passing through CA some thirty years ago when I learned of this thing called CARB that had recently banned outdoor barbeques and gas-powered lawn mowers.

Since then, it appears that CARB intends to end civilization in CA.
