Are you a bluegrass picker looking to make a move? Or maybe you and your instrument are just in the mood for a long summer road trip.
Whatever your reason, we understand the draw of a town where it’s easy to find people to pick with. Nothing builds your bluegrass chops faster than regular opportunities to play with others, and there aren’t many better ways to make friends in a new home, either.
With that in mind, here are what we consider the best bluegrass jamming towns in America:
Asheville NC
Boulder CO
Mountain View AK
Washington DC
Nashville TN
Floyd VA
Johnson City TN
Read on to find out what makes them special.

Oh..
Just now realized this article is one year old. Welcome to 2023 🥳
Mountain view , AR in stone county Arkansas is a pretty good place to hear a lot of great bluegrass music. Especially in the summer and fall around the courthouse square. I don’t know about mountain view, AK . I think someone got abbreviation for arkansas and alaska mixed up.
D.C. as a Bluegrass Jamming Town? I'm not buying it.
Over the MLK weekend, it will be the 30A part of the Florida Panhandle.

See you there!
I have mixed feelings about Asheville NC. Good tourist attractions Nice scenery. Good food. Great fishing. But there are a lot of liberals up there.
I lived in Memphis 20 years ago. Blues was dominant at the bars and music venues, but blue-grass was a clear second place.
we used to goto Harmony/Union Grove NC for the Old Time Fiddlers Convention most of the 70’s, good times...
I think you are missing Charleston, WV the home of Mountain Stage for forty years this year. While Blue Grass is only a minor percentage of what they have featured, it certainly has included that genre.
One could also join the Hillbilly Thomists. Supposedly in the past they would occasionally play in DC.

Once Springtime hits, me and the Missus are gonna hit some of the festivals around here.
Since 1974 Nashville Indiana has hosted Bill Monroe’s bluegrass festival every year. Best bluegrass weekend in the world. It should be #1 on the list.
I have heard the same.
Cool. Have fun!
That one is a classic.
As far as the music scene goes, I don't think Boulder is necessarily a gathering place for any particular genre. It's just people playing stuff because they think it's cool that they're in Boulder.
***Mountain View AK ***
SAY WHAT? I believe he means Mountain View AR. (Arkan-saw)
Great banjo pickers here but I don’t think this town of pap country pop and dirt road tailgate country pop and aging rock stars is known for bluegrass music much
Nashville TN
Maybe on WSM OR PUBLIC RADIO
no doubt some big players live here
I think Rugby TN about two hours east has festivals and smithville used to
Or McMinnville
