Get this thru your biased head….

Guns are INANIMATE OBJECTS.

Dogs are animals, and as such are AUTONOMOUS BEINGS who can do things on their own, of their own mind.

Heck today I saw a great episode of Judge Judy. She dismissed damages on a little dog by a Boxer because all the owners had done what the law eprequires as far as “controlling” them. Beyond a proper lead (she even ensured they weren’t those damn retractable leads) and hold, the dogs were autonomous and managed to do what dogs do, so it was not Boxer owner requirement to pay for small dog damage.

IOW, dogs are going to do what they do.

Unlike firearms.

The dog didn’t even go after him.

I did not read it as FR rules state, but it would be poetic justice if the dog had been chipped and led right back to the miscreant.

From the article: The incident took place in Winchester, a census-designated place in Riverside County, California. Animal Services officers subsequently made multiple attempts using the dog's microchip information to locate the owner at an address in Temecula city. According to Animal Services, the man apparently no longer resides there and the provided phone number for the chip is not allowing incoming calls.

The shelter reveals the dog's name as KO and records show that the dog is owned by 30-year-old Robert Ruiz Jr. Based on the footage and additional information, Animal Services is seeking an arrest warrant for Mr. Ruiz for abandoning an animal willfully. Miraculously, KO did not suffer serious injuries from the razor wire.

Dobermans are different from PBTs. All are different from PBTs.

“NO, That’s total BS.”

No, it’s not. Lots of dogs were kept as protection, including of kids at play. But they were not BRED as such. I know of NO dog breed that was bred as a protector of children specifically. But some are better at the job than others. Most dogs are protective of their “peeps.”

I hope you never had or will ever have a dog, of ANY breed. Because you seem to know nothing about them.

I have had several GERMAN SHEPHERDS over my life, thank you very much. And cats. Devoted to them. My 2nd purebred was the best dog ever, bar none. My last was a dog who was allergic to EVERYTHIGN from puppy on, and I spent thousands upon THOUSANDS of $ o dermatology and special diet and lots of bathing and shots and pills for 11 years till she died due to hip problems.

I have a terrific sympathy card sent me by the dermatologist crew. They loved my dog. And they knew I AND my husband took excellent care of her.

All of my dogs got SERIOUS obedience training the old-fashioned way and we’re model citizens, loved by all.

Take that.

I am aware of that. But both are intimidating looking breeds. pB’s for a well deserved reason. Dobermans? Not so much. They are a smart and exceelllent breed of dogs.

Dobes were bred for useful police work. It’s the “police” that makes people scared of them….and German Shepherds, and BelMals, etc.

Not killing each other or anything else.

I actually don’t mind a PBT type, if I know it’s from show lines, or a specific breed that has had it bred out of them. (Even Bull Terriers are largely innocuous now.). Problem is, how am I to be sure unless I’m at an AKC show?

Everything you said about your dogs, I can say about mine (but none of mine had allergies). And I’ve had nothing BUT pitties over the last thirty years, and ALL of them have been rescues. All of them have been great dogs, very friendly. We have a large yard, and there is a grade school across the street, and kids in the neighborhood have always stopped to pet them.

Also, because our yard is large, people in the neighborhood bring their dogs over for play dates in our yard. Hell, one of those neighbor dogs is here in my study right now, with my dog, as we are watching it while its owner is at work and her roommate is out of town. The dogs are sleeping side by side next to my chair (when they’re not sleeping in my bed).

People who are for breed-specific legislation are fanatics, as are those lunatics who publicly call for the summary killing of pitties.

We should have expected this when the rent was raised down at the trailer park.

No. Just, no. I had a couple of Labs who did not have a dangerous bone in their bodies.

Pit Bulls can be safely managed and are sweet animals, but they are different. Apples and oranges different. They need a dominant owner.

“No. Just, no.”

Yes. Just, yes. And I will say it again: ALL dogs can be dangerous dogs; just as ALL people can be dangerous people. The operative word there is CAN, as in the potential for dangerous behavior or aggression is there.

I have been chased by many unfenced dogs over my jogging career, which is over due to age. German Shepherds, Rotweilers, etc. the whole gamut. When chased by dogs, all I would do is aggressively move towards the dog. German Shepherds and all the other breeds would back off at the bigger guy aggressively moving towards them. I would pull this brazen move constantly, (yeah, I was young and stupid once) until I tried it on a Pit Bull, and the dog did not retreat. I never tried this again, and I was lucky to be able to back away, but not run away. Had I ran, I would have been attacked.

I realize pit bulls are sweet animals and can be managed and make good pets, but the owner must remain competent and in charge. They are just not suitable for an elderly person, etc. I would never own a dog that might maime a child. Happens all the time with this breed; read the reports. Don’t deny the reality of these reports. Many breeds just do not have this history.

And remember, all good dogs are known by their reputations. 😉
