Everything you said about your dogs, I can say about mine (but none of mine had allergies). And I’ve had nothing BUT pitties over the last thirty years, and ALL of them have been rescues. All of them have been great dogs, very friendly. We have a large yard, and there is a grade school across the street, and kids in the neighborhood have always stopped to pet them.

Also, because our yard is large, people in the neighborhood bring their dogs over for play dates in our yard. Hell, one of those neighbor dogs is here in my study right now, with my dog, as we are watching it while its owner is at work and her roommate is out of town. The dogs are sleeping side by side next to my chair (when they’re not sleeping in my bed).

People who are for breed-specific legislation are fanatics, as are those lunatics who publicly call for the summary killing of pitties.

I never said I was for breed-specific legislation (BSL).

I sympathize with it, but it is impossible, because they are animals who vary, not guns which have absolute features with blueprints.

Many people screw up IDs of dogs (much less other animals). One of our FReepers who was a Labrador nut had people mistake her dogs for PBTs.

I’m largely against that because a) people don’t know what they’re talking about, and even when we do, we can’t verify except AKC papers if a dog is a pure this or that and b) it might be abused to expand to dogs people are just always scared of, though they have much less history of atrocities.

If people would be logical and immediately deal with individual dogs who have proven tenaciously vicious (not just a provoked attack on a criminal, e.g.), that would be much more logical.

But no, we have to “shelter” them and PC woke try to send them to some other sucker.

Bring back kill impounds.

I have no illusions about animals anymore. I got rid of that childish, impractical view some time ago. I love them, but will not sacrifice human safety for them. Nor much else - I do not cast aspersions upon people just for having a hard time dealing with animals and “giving up”, etc. Nope. We don’t all have that luxury of sacrificing our families and neighbors to save 1 stupid dog.
