With the clock ticking down below six minutes remaining in the first quarter of the Monday Night Football game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Buffalo Bills, with the home team ahead 7-3, an unsettling injury happened inside Cincinnati’s Paycor Stadium.
At 8:55 p.m. Eastern time, according to ABC Sports, Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field and was given oxygen and CPR, after a hard hit during game play.
Multiple Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals players gathered around in extreme concern as Bills safety Damar Hamlin was down on the field being helped by trainers after a frightening injury.
Hamlin took a big hit in the chest area on a tackle in the first quarter of Buffalo’s game on Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals. Hamlin got hit by Bengals receiver Tee Higgins as he ran upfield after a catch. Hamlin got up, then suddenly collapsed. His head hit the turf.
Reporters on the scene said Hamlin was given CPR on the field. More than 15 minutes passed from the time Hamlin collapsed to when he was taken off the field.
An ambulance, which was brought on the field, took Hamlin to a local hospital, the only level-one trauma center in the Cincinnati area, according to ABC Sports.

Both coaches met with the officials. At about 9:17 p.m. Eastern, a little more than 20 minutes after Hamlin collapsed, officials said the game was temporarily suspended. Both teams headed back to the locker room.

In 2020, at the end of his final year at Pitt, Damar Hamlin organized a toy drive for kids in his hometown of McKees Rocks, Pa. This is the young man who went down on the field tonight in Cincinnati. He is a man; not a number on a jersey. Prayers for Damar.

An NFL Thug yesterday did Snow Angels next to player just injured. Then he celebrated and cut up on the sidelines making the (put to) Sleep gesture.
None of these announcers/ coaches / players / networks criticized the thug.
Now, we’re told they’re all brothers?

Saw the hit. Right on his chest which in itself is not remarkable. But it could have sent his heart to beat eradically.
Will know by tomorrow morning.

Looks like a clot shot ‘died suddenly’ event.
I pray that the kid gets the same second chance God gave to me when I died on the basketball court. His Grace and good medical attention resulted in my still being around, undeserving though I am.
Between this and watching Mississippi State playing for Coach Leach, it’s been a pretty emotional day.
Situations like this are the only time a knee should be taken in an NFL game. Prayers for this young man and his family.
we just saw this and it was an ordinary hit ...nothing particularly hard or in an unusual location ... he went into cardiac arrest and collapsed right after he stood up ...

Might be “Commotio Cordis” produced by a sudden hit to a certain area of the chest/ heart. Not common but often deadly.
He was hit very hard from the replays I saw. God help him.
I saw the play after the fact, and I was surprised. This wasn’t the typical case of the offensive player being slammed by a defensive player, but of the defender taking a hard hit in the chest by the man with the ball. Compared to a lot of plays, it didn’t look that bad.

I’ve watched the replays and it was a very hard, and direct hit to the chest. The man basically stood there and got hit hard by a speeding runner, and it produced a tackle.
In the process of making the tackle, Hamlin grabbed Higgens and spun him to the ground, simultaneously hitting the side of his own head on the hard artificial turf. He seemed stunned but got up before collapsing. Another artificial turf casualty.
