Both sides are weakening their military resources, in particular Russia. I have to wonder if that in itself is a way for a corrupt person to receive a payoff. Not saying that would necessarily be the person at the top. Russia’s performance in this operation has been fairly close to an all-out disaster, if they had taken on an even stronger power than Ukraine they could be down on the canvas by now.

Right, that's why Ukrainians are fighting ferociously against Putin's invasion.

Those borders of Ukraine were 'defined' or more accurately acknowledged by Lenin because the people living in that area were Ukrainian.

Ethnicity of Donbas was majority Ukraininan in 1926 that's why it was incorporated into the Ukrainian SSR. Russians were a minority.

Ethnic Groups in Ukraine, of Russians, 1926 census

Best column on the origins of the Ukraine conflict I’ve read:

https://amgreatness.com/2022/11/18/its-time-to-speak-the-truth-about-ukraine/

It’s Time to Speak the Truth About Ukraine :
Sanctions are destroying our economy, a proxy war is leading the United States to the brink of nuclear annihilation, and America is financing a Nazi regime.

This was the result of the 2010 election, won by Yanukovych, who was overthrown in the bloody 2014 Maidan Coup, which was conceived and run by the U.S. govt.

There are even leaked recordings of our top diplomats discussing which Ukrainian puppet they were going to install as the new leader.

IOW, since 2014, Ukraine has been a U.S.-run puppet regime.

There is a significant Russian population in eastern and southern Ukraine in the 1926 map you posted. The Russian population in the areas grew over time - to about one-third of Ukraine today (15 million people). When Ukraine declared war on Ukrainian Russians in 2014, that's when this whole mess started.

Taken from Russia, added to Ukraine by Lenin

Moron, doesn't acknowledge that all the areas "taken" were actually areas with majority Ukrainian population or is moron suggesting Lenin was some closet Ukrainian nazi?

Maurice Richards must have been reading my social media posts because that’s exactly what I’ve been saying for the past 6 months. He’s exactly right.

Maybe a national divorce

To state the obvious, voting for a ethnic Russian presidential candidate is quite different than voting to join Russia. All these areas voted for independence in ‘91 overwhelmingly except Crimea.

LOL, russian population 'grew' in the area because Stalin exterminated the Ukrainian population during the Holodomor.

The Holodomor ('to kill by starvation') also known as the Terror-Famine, was a man-made famine in Soviet Ukraine from 1932 to 1933 that killed millions of Ukrainians.

So what, they voted for independence, what does that matter?

Czechoslovakia was one country, they had a peaceful divorce and are now 2 separate peaceful countries.

Yugoslavia was one country, they had a bloody war of separation.

Should we arm bloody proxy wars to force them back together?

Ukrainians(many of them ethnic Russians) are fighting fiercely against Putin's land grab and the idiot is excusing russian imperialism and genocide by pushing the false narrative of a civil war.

Russian propaganda believers can now bury the 2014 "separatist" angle; it's dead.

"The Hague District Court qualifies Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014 as 'international armed conflict' and recognizes that Russia had control over its proxies in eastern Ukraine."

Actually, under Lenin and Stalin, Crimea was part of Russia, not Ukraine.
