Possibly, but don't underestimate how much damage the attacks from Trump may actually be doing to them, especially DeSantis.
Trump still wields immense political power, rising to an almost god-like figure in some of his supporter's minds. There are many here posting that they used to like DeSantis, but now that Trump has come out against him, they are now fully against him and behind the scenes looking for every piece of dirt they can find.
It's unfortunate, but when Trump presents this "No one else shall come before me" persona, then in the minds of his followers anything that even potentially stands in his way has to be destroyed as a false idol.
So Trump is hugely damaging DeSantis and Youngkin within the ranks of the Trump diehards, some of which would actually be needed to ever win a general election, even if DeSantis or Youngkin don't even run until 2028.
Therefore, my guess is, they'd prefer Trump to knock it off and focus on the Democrats instead.
Fair point, but that was inevitable anyway if DeSantis or Youngkin chooses to run against Trump. I suppose there's a chance that Trump will play the "good sport" and would endorse DeSantis or Youngkin in the general elections, but they obviously can't count on that.
But I do think that Trump so clearly sabotaging himself will lead to fewer Trump supporters sitting home in the general election. It would be worse if Trump wasn't inflicting wounds on himself, and they had to run negative campaigns against him. This way, they can at least just talk about their own visions, and let his own conduct make the necessary contrasts. As is apparent on here, there are some people who were pretty much in Trump's corner who have flipped because of this.
Three weeks ago, DeSantis was a MAGA darling. Now the Trumpkins are going all out to destroy him. Because Trump called him "DeSanctimonious" and made him out as somehow disloyal to Trump personally, the Trumpkins (turning on a dime) have now decided that DeSantis is somehow an Establishment RINO.
