Thanks to the GOP voting in ranked-choice voting, Sarah Palin has election taken from her again.
Sarah Palin deserves a special medal of honor for her attempts to make America a great country. The former governor of Alaska offered to help the helpless John McCain in his run for President and she was hammered by the media like no politician up to that point in history.
After helping McCain increase his popularity with the public, McCain threw her under the bus when he lost.
This past year, Palin ran for office again, this time for US Rep from Alaska. She ended up losing the election after the GOP had more votes due to the GOP pushing through ranked choice voting in the state.
Last night, Palin had her election taken from her again after the GOP had more votes but two candidates.

McCain threw Palin under the bus just like he did to his fellow POWs back in Vietnam.
If your description of ranked choice is accurate, it was suicidal for the Republicans to run two candidates. I thought primaries were intended to reduce the field to one candidate for each party or the two candidates receiving the most votes. Does ranked choice eliminate primaries, or just make them meaningless because two candidates from the same party can get into the final election?
Full explanation of ranked choice voting: https://www.elections.alaska.gov/RCV.php
According to the above, there is a non-partisan primary, and the top four vote-getters advance to the ranked choice general election.
The only way to avoid what happened is to ensure party discipline prevents two or more candidates from your party registering for the primary.
Unfortunately, the Republicans aren't as disciplined as the Democrats in this area.
Did Palin really lose because of ranked choice, or because the other GOPer was still in the race???
I think it was because the other republican wouldn’t step down and support Palin. You know Palin’s team tried to negotiate with him to do the right thing. But no, he sabotaged her.
That is the point! Voters are not supposed to understand how the corrupt political class works.
Palin has not lost (yet)
The second choice votes have not yet been counted. If enough of the Begich and Bye voters preferred Palin over Peltola then Palin will win. If enough Begich/Bye voters prefer Peltola over Palin (or don’t express a preference) then Peltola will win. It works exactly how a run off election would work (ranked choice voting is also referred to as instant run-off)
“Except according to the ranked vote, if he had dropped out, the democrat would have gotten enough of his voters to win anyway.”
Unproveable assumption since it never can happen. I know there are people saying that, but Republicans vote Republicans most of the time. To say she would have lost alone is only a guess at best.
But you are right, most republicans are cowards and are afraid (of MSM) to fight. DeSantis showed them the path to victory and very few will follow (to gutless). But look at the big winners, Kari Lake (she’ll win big even though behind now), DeSantis (largest % in State History), Abbot (crushed dems love), Kristi Noem (great upcomer), Bill Lee (Christian-values” Republican won 65% of vote), etc.
The tougher you are and stick to your core vales and don’t let the media scare the better you do... Repubs need to understand this.
“Palin has not lost (yet)”
If most republicans stick to party and since the Dems only second choice really is a republican. She could pull it out.
Exactly. But Cowfartski would have survived a primary so she rigged it with this crap.
Entirely predictable. It has been said they often run another Republican candidate just to split the vote and cause a loss.
Absolutely! 💯
Except that some states don't hold public primary elections, they hold closed party caucuses. (Most famous example is the Iowa Caucuses.)
There is nothing that forces a party to hold a public primary election. In Michigan we've gone back and forth between caucus primaries and public voting primaries. Public voting primaries can encourage "crossover voting" so that if one party has a very strong candidate, they can instead cross over and vote for a very weak candidate in the other party's primary election.
This happened in Michigan when John Engler was the only Republican candidate for Governor, so Republicans (like me) crossed over and voted for Jeffery Fieger in the Democrat Primary for Governor. Fieger won, and was slaughtered in the general election.
I also think that crossover voting helped Trump to become the Republican nominee in 2016. Democrats knew that sHrillary was their nominee, and thought Trump would be the easiest to beat in the general election.
So yes. You did vote for the Democrat.
Disdain is not a strong enough word.
Is she out? She’s currently in 2nd place... with 20% of the vote still out... the Democrat is under 50%... so is the assumption here that 10% or more of the folks who voted for the other Republican will select the democrat as their second choice?
I don’t agree with using it, but this is a very easy to understand explanation of how it works.

Just when you think they’ve invented every form of fraud, here they come up with another.
