I don't care what Jimmy Kimmel says on TV. My television set comes with two things: a channel changer and an off switch. I support his right to parrot the Democrat Party line instead of telling jokes. Disney can run whatever show it wants on its ABC network.
The only thing I care about is his cavalier attitude toward local TV. In a three-way race for late-night ratings, he finishes fourth. Don't just take my word for it.
Forbes reported on October 27, "With 2.494 million total viewers and 396,000 viewers in the key demographic group of adults 25-54, Gutfeld! beat not just everything else on cable, but the high-profile broadcast networks’ late night shows as well. CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was a close second with 2.1 million viewers and 375,000 viewers in the key demo, followed by NBC’s The Tonight Show (1.289 million viewers and 318,000 in the demo), and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live (1.285 million total viewers and 287,000 viewers in the key demo)."
When some guy on cable doubles your audience, you should be ashamed. Gutfield does not have 240 stations carrying his show. He is on Fox News. And by the way, his is far from the most watched show on that channel.
Instead of being ashamed, Kimmel brags about his show tanking.
The LA Times reported on an interview he gave.
The paper said, "Kimmel said that he 'lost half of my fan [base], maybe more than that,' due to his coverage of Trump and recalled that he was 'the most popular talk show host' among Republican viewers before the former Apprentice star took office. He said he knew where ABC’s concerns were coming from, but he stood his ground."
Kimmel said he said, "Listen, if that’s what you want to do, I understand and I don’t begrudge you for it, but I’m not going to do that. So, you know, if you want somebody else to host the show, then that’s fine. That’s OK with me. I’m just not going to do it like that."
Given how tethered Disney is to the Democrat Party, it is more likely Disney encouraged him to spew partisan propaganda rather than tell jokes.
But if I am the general manager of an ABC affiliate struggling in a time of cable-cutting and streaming, I would care about a show giving away half its audience like that.
Instead of giving Kimmel an hour to indulge as the Howard Beale of the left, I would look for a better way to make money.
I would extend my 11 O'Clock newscast to a full hour. Local news makes money because it is cheap to produce and attracts local advertising money. Then I would follow up with a cheap rerun followed by Nightline.
99.7% of America does not watch Kimmel's show. Surely even reruns of My Mother, The Car would improve ratings.
I am not calling for a boycott of Kimmel or his advertisers.
But ABC affiliates have employees to feed and shareholders to please. Kimmel doesn't care about them. In fact, he is proud of costing ABC and its affiliates money. His virtue signaling comes at a price paid by others.
Maybe the affiliates should not care about Kimmel.
I really can’t tell Kimmel and Fallon apart. They look they same, sound the same, and both are named Jimmy
I have watched them both, and both present low IQ, knee-jerk, leftist-themed crap. Awfully UN-funny.
Kimmel lately acknowledged that he lost half his audience by bashing Trump.................
How are they doing? The free market should solve the problem. These idiots are losing 50% of potential viewers. Doubling their viewers should be a compelling business justification for them.
Then again, they are hardcore leftists. Who knows, maybe we are paying for them out of our taxes like PBS and NPR. Unlikely but you never know.
Isn’t Jimmy Fallon the one who got in trouble for being too nice to trump?
I wonder if he really feels that way, or it’s just an excuse. He thought he’d get more viewers this way. Because it’s one thing to have the courage of your convictions, but it’s another thing to throw away a huge chance like having a late night show.
Wouldn't surprise me at all.
Ah the free market system. It wins if it is truly a free market.
Just because they were beat in the ratings doesn’t mean the show is worthless. He is still bringing a million plus viewers.
Leftists can be zealots and cheating or stealing is okay if it is for “the good.”
Advertisers pay by the ratings in their key demographics.
If ratings fall, so does the price of advertising...............
But if I were a business person, I would ask “what about those millions of viewers that you are missing out on.” It means more $. I am sure that the sponsors would be willing to pay more if the number of viewers doubled.
Basic business — making more money — is a good thing.
Fallon is the most wrong man for the right job ever.
Yup.
Speaking of which, did you see this last night?
Elon Musk Confirms — Twitter employees were secretly selling Bluechecks for $15,000 each….
Its state-directed, corporate-oligarch media. Free-market has nothing to do with it.
Its a similar version of what Russia does. Oligarch friends of Putin and the ruling party run the major media. They arrange and spin to present everything in the proper ideological note. There is some opposition views allowed, but they usually always on the "wrong side" of issues.
Yes, the USA has fallen that far....
But I trusted him and he always seem to put on a good show.
So it can be done. They probably got rid of Leno because of “demographics.”
Of course, too, we have all lost our sense of humor as a country in recent. A lot of hate flowing around and mostly from the Left and people don't like a joke that is humor wrapped around hate.
Kimmel and Fallon seem very different to me. Kimmel seems very hardcore leftist and Fallon not quite as much. Also, Kimmel seems very hateful much of the time, while Fallon seems like a genuinely nice guy.
What is that?................
