The biggest reason Trump's attack on DeSantis was a mistake
Hot Air ^ | November 7, 2022 | DAVID STROM

I have made no secret of the fact that I think Ron DeSantis is an extraordinary politician. I prefer him to any of the potential candidates for President, and am willing to explain to anybody why that is. This, though, is not that column.

I also am no Never-Trumper, and would vote for him over any Democrat in a heartbeat. Trump has a lot to be proud of, and without his leadership the Republicans would still be captured by the Establishment™.

Now that I have put my biases on the table, let me give you my analysis of what I believe to be Trump’s huge own goal.

My most objective take possible, given my acknowledged preferences, is that President Trump made a big unforced error attacking DeSantis at his rally the other day.

Not just because he did so just before an election day on which the Republicans simply must destroy the Democrats–after all, Governor DeSantis doesn’t need Trump’s support to win. If Trump went into full attack mode it wouldn’t dent DeSantis’ reputation one little bit.

So Trump’s attack is electorally irrelevant (which in itself is an unforced error, as it shows Trump to be weaker than he wants to look against a political rival).

Trump’s attack was a mistake because he opened up an old wound that could be Trump’s Achilles’ Heel: his huge mistakes dealing with COVID. Mistakes that DeSantis saw early and rejected quickly.

I like desantis...
I however suspect that he will eventually reveal that he is only partly maga... and at some level, he is beholden to the RINO establishment...

a slightly more maga leaning form of the pre 2020 election debacle named Mike Pence.

Trump is independent from the Mega Donors.

Is DeSantis?

Something to ponder. Who is more independent from the Mega Donors?

All I am saying is that this was a big mistake by Trump. He should have held his opinions about DeSantis until DeSantis announced his intention to run. Now he just gave DeSantis a reason to run. If that was Trump’s intention, then it will probably work.

Trump has given anyone with gravitas a nickname (Marco with tiny hands, Sleepy Joe, Low Energy Jeb, Little Rocket Man). Allowing the enemies of our country, namely MSM outlets, to dictate what Trump can say and do is a mistake. Trump's America was so much better than the Deep State's America. The contrast between the two Americas is stark and shocking (1.4% inflation vs. 9.1%, $2.37/gal gas vs $4+, no war in Ukraine, no Troopers lost in 18 mos in Afghanistan vs the Deep State Afghanistan Debacle, etc). To allow a Trumpism as defined by enemies of America to reign in an independent strong leader like Trump is a mistake.

I don't like it that DeSantis is allowing Griffin and Paul Ryan in is his sandbox.

The difference is this, Paul Harvey was talking and praising someone else.

This was a DeSantis ad about himself. There is big difference between being praised by the someone else, and touting your own horns. When you praise yourself and invoke God, it comes off really bad.

Sure Rush did it, but Rush was not running for office, he’s an entertainer.

Anyway, the whole thing is a distraction, DeSantis’ ad was not well thought out, and Trump probably should have stayed away from the topic instead of brining more attention to it.

Republicans needs to be unified this close before the election, not attack each other.

“Calling someone who voted for Trump twice a “neverTrumper” is simply deliberate lying, isn’t that obvious?”

The way you talk about President Trump, I doubt you voted for him.

Does that make me a liar? No. It makes me a doubter.

Ughhh...Never Trumper Trolls have been outing themselves in large numbers ever since Trump's great rallies over the weekend.

Hilarious how quickly they sprung into action.
You could almost hear their cries: "We've got him now!" as they eagerly posted their "Trump is finished" screeds.

That said, no one who understands how close we are to losing this country, CARES, about an off-the-cuff comment Trump made about Desantis.

I doubt Desantis is bothered by it either.

He's been a great Governor for Florida, and residents of his state know that. It is the only thing that matters.

As for Real POTUS Trump, he can say whatever he wants. He is the man in the arena. He deserves our unwavering support.

He has put EVERYTHING on the line, including his own family, to try to save this nation from the pure evil, that has taken it over. He did not have to do this.

Does everyone remember how his Mar a Lago home was raided, and they pawed through his wife and youngest son's personal things? (Plus they also trashed the place.)

And how many death threats do you think he, and his entire family, receive daily going back to 2016?

The man has done nothing but work his @$$ off, trying to make this country better for everyone.
(Reminder that he did this successfully-made things better- even DURING the pandemic, and in spite of the lockdowns).

But for all the magnificent things he has done, (and continues to do), the ankle biters will come rushing out at the slightest provocation.

To conclude: I don't care, about Trump's Desantis comment. We have much bigger things to deal with -Like losing our nation forever.

(Rant:Off)

P.S. Pray for President Trump, his family, and our country. 🙏

A lot of people were stupid with Bush-botism. There are a lot of NPCs here just repeat bumper sticker slogans and refuse to look accept facts because they don’t line up with their world view.

Just make sure you aren’t becoming something you will regret later.
