Jerry Lee Lewis, the early rock n' roll star who skyrocketed to fame with a string of hits in the 1950s, had died, his publicist confirmed to CBS News. He was 87.
Nicknamed "The Killer," Lewis was known for his energetic stage performances, which included antics such as playing the piano with his feet and lighting the instrument on fire.

RIP, even if he was weird.
My mom loved him. Guess she didn’t know about his weird goings-on at the time.
Makes me sad, though, thinking these people are dying.
This is funny.
Besides the JLL Whole Lotta, which played when we were pulling into the garage (they mentioned his death and played), in the 20 minute span I waited for my son and listened to XM ‘50s, they played a great spate of songs and almost ALL of the acts mentioned with your post were in it!
(Not Elvis, which is mostly a yawner as common.)
Love him - and yes he’s same age as JLL and still alive!
Heard “Gina” on way back home today.
Turns out Mathis is the biggest seller up to this day besides Elvis and Sinatra!
And a Charley’s Angel?
Elvis is still alive.

Of course he is. Women I know say they see him all the time!
Idea for his epitaph: “He shook our nerves and he rattled our brains.”
Read this today.
RIP Jerry.
Runaway was by Del Shannon, not Dion and the Belmonts.
A Lebanese and three Italians. They eat right.
When I was about twelve years old, I went with two other girls to the Weile's Ice Cream Shoppe on University Boulevard near the U of Maryland for one of their spectacular dishes of ice cream with pink and green whipped cream. We were the only customers in the place until Paul Anka and his manager came in and sat in the booth just across the aisle from us. We were repressed little Protestant girls and stifled our giggles, but I have to say, it was a surreal experience.
He must have been performing, because his face was caked with orange makeup, and he was sweaty. Also, it being the old days when men were supposed to be "tall, dark and handsome", we were surprised that he was so short that he was wearing Cuban heels. We just tittered and did not rush over and clamour for his autograph. The guy who would one day write "I Did It My Way" and make a gazillion dollars. Missed our chance. He is 81 years old today and still touring.
Every fan knew. It was a huge scandal, and they stopped playing his records on the radio for years after he married his 13-year-old cousin. At least around Baltimore-DC, that is.
Man, 2022 has been rough. We lost Mickey Gilley (Jerry Lee’s cousin) earlier this year.
Nah, my mom didn’t know much. And she was Baltimoron.
Of course, she (and I) is not a typical “fan”. She was not into celebrity nonsense like concerts, and fan magazines, or screaming and fainting over them.
Probably more like me - I listen to music, and don’t much care about the details, and just happen to notice when an act is consistently good that we like them. Couldn’t name members of any given group, but I know what their hits are. Just don’t care to know everything about them.
His Twist was started in Tampa on Central Ave, the Black part of Tampa before desegregation! In the Encore development, there's a Ray Charles Way, Ray Charles lived in Tampa for a time. The Jackson Rooming House (where blacks stayed in Tampa) had alot of blacks staying there - Ella Fitzgerald, Chubby Checker and others.

The Space Alein is endorsing Fetterman, because Fetterman is communicating to his leaders and he is not mentally ill. What Fetterman is saying, according to the space alien, that he and Biden wants to visit their planet and see if there's any males who think they are females on it...
Also Elvis Presley had Jerry Lee arrested in 1976 - just months before Elvis himself would die - when Jerry Lee crashed through the gates of Graceland in his new Lincoln Continental with a bottle of champagne in one hand and a loaded pistol on the dashboard.
While most remember him as a 1950s rock and roller, he actually had far more hits as a country music star with an incredible run of eleven straight Top 10 country hits between 1968-1971 (and a bunch more after that non-consecutively).
He also declared bankruptcy and was put on trial for tax evasion (he was found innocent) in the 1980s. But he did recover to a net worth of over $10 million.
A wild and crazy life.
RIP.
I not only got the songs mixed up, but also the singers. I should have remembered it was Del Shannon since I sang Runaway in one my bands back when. Oh well, I'm 72 and I'm sticking with that excuse.
With the Jerry Lee scandal, it wasn’t so much about fandom as about DJs “cancelling” him, and there had to be a reason that was talked about on the school bus, and our parents disapproving of continuing to play his 45 records in the basement!
