I went to my nearest Cabela's this week to do a little shopping. When I entered the store I noticed a sign at the service counter that essentially said guns entering the store must be registered at the counter. I asked if that was all guns and was told yes. I took out my conceal carry and put it on the country. Thee attendant asked me if the gun had bullets in it (DUH!). I said yes. He then told me I had to take the gun to the gun sales and have them unload it and then bring it back up to register it. I then told him I would just take it back out to my car and leave it. Probably last shopping trip to Cabela's.
We go Constitutional Carry on Jan 01. It should be fun to watch.
We parted friends 4 years ago.
Tell her to check her white privilege. Only well to do people in affluent areas don’t have to worry about protection, whether from wild animals or people.
Fair enough. But don't you think that's a little weird?
Best scenario I can think of is that the range owner also deals in firearms and was approving straw purchases.
It sounds to me like they don’t trust the people they sell guns to. Hmmmm. That’s weird.
“Cabela’s is not going to have conceal carry customers register their guns with the front desk. Why post this nonsense?”
OP not understanding what Cabela’s policy is on personal carry weapons vs bringing guns to Cabela’s gun department. Guns taken to the gun dept. as part of a commercial transaction are a legal responsiblity for Cabela’s, so they make sure the guns are unloaded and have someone escort you to the Gun Dept (did this to me with a double barrel shotgun I took back for a minor issue). Cabela’s policy clearly says personal carry weapons are A-OK (within local and state laws).
You were an idiot for not reading the sign and they played for one.
John L. Morris (born 1948) is an American billionaire businessman, and the founder, majority owner, and CEO of Bass Pro Shops [and Cabela’s], a hunting and fishing retail chain in the US and Canada. As of September 2021, his net worth was estimated at US$7.1 billion.
Cabela’s and Bass are now united.
Exactly, I just fail to register and go about my business.
It helps to read the entire sign. :-)
Do you have proof of this story?
Bingo
It’s concealed carry. What they don’t know won’t hurt you.
Just ignore the sign or better yet, shop elsewhere.
I can imagine a scenario where certain...organizations might want a source of readily-available guns to use in crimes which can’t be traced back to the criminal. In which case, said organization would want to be able to return for a source of weapons as needed. Therefore, you don’t upset the apple cart. I don’t know what happened to the accused in the end.
Nope, just what my coworker told me. He did link me to a story about it, but it was well over a decade ago. I couldn’t think of how to start looking for it.
If it was concealed, why in the world would you tell them about it? What a sheep. Ignore it and go shopping.
If they have a sign like: “This is a gun free zone” then you are merely violating their policy to carry, concealed or not. They can tell you to leave, and if you don’t the coppers will come.
Otherwise, bugger off.
Oh, and if a sports shop says “gun free”, walk away.
“If it was concealed, why in the world would you tell them about it?”
You do realize if you go into a placed that says no fire arms or posts the 30.06 that says no fire arms and you carry a conceal firearm get caught with one you could lose your conceal permit?
