Chokwe Antar Lumumba, Democratic mayor of Jackson, Mississippi, promised to make the capital “the most radical city on the planet” during his 2017 campaign, but so far he’s been unable to even solve even the city’s basic infrastructure problems and the city’s running water is now unsafe to drink.
He campaigned on plans to introduce universal basic income and alternatives to policing, to replace vacant lots with urban farms and to resolve chronic issues with the city’s water and roads in order to break the “cycles of humiliation” he said black residents experience in Jackson, the most heavily black large city in the U.S. Instead, the city’s water problems have worsened, and Republican Gov. Tate Reeves declared a state of emergency Tuesday because running water is not reliably available nor safe for consumption.

The city-run O.B. Curtis Water Plant has been plagued with issues for years and has issued numerous boil water notices, but recent flooding impeded its ability to offer reliable running water to 180,000 Jackson residents. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) will be distributing water from tanker trucks at various points throughout the city, Lumumba told CNN.
“I wouldn’t call us the most radical city to date,” Lumumba told Politico in 2021 amid a separate city water crisis.
Lumumba did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
Maybe give them Jackson, Mississippi. It might be cheaper than trying to fix it.
Flint Michigan. Jackson Mississippi.
We really are headed to the point that basic services like plumping will no longer work.
When our country was founded, it was white male property owners who had the vote. Now that might sound elitist and discriminatory, but the logic behind it was that for the country to succeed, the voters had to be smart and responsible enough to own and keep property and they had to have skin in the game.
Otherwise--surprise, surprise--we'd get the kind of elected office holders we have now.
I'm not suggesting we return to our original policy, I'm just pointing it out for purposes of comparison.
The city of Tulsa, OK..had a pretty successful “Black Wallstreet”....back in the day.
“He stepped to the window and pointed to the skyscrapers of the city. He said that we had to extinguish the lights of the world, and when we would see the lights of New York go out, we would know that our job was done.” ― John Galt - Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged

Surely there are plenty of churches in Jackson. Maybe they could help sort the water problem...and even contribute a goat or two.
NO…
In the Twitterverse they’re blaming white people...for moving out. I don’t think this one is fixable.
Lumumba???
What did they expect?
The is a role for the federal state when the state and/or locals are corrupt.
Citizens need an avenue for relief.
Checks and balances, right?
While we still had a republic, anyway.
Note to Dems still voting that way: Note that Deep State didn’t fix this for you.
As long as there are crooked elections, that will not change.
It’s not on the Mississippi River but quite a few miles east of the river.
It’s 47 miles from the river.
Yep. A Finnish study concluded that any society with an average IQ of 90 or below is incapable of maintaining a civilization, or democracy as they put it. 60 years worth of casual observation would confirm their findings. Of course to recognize the truth gets you labeled as a racist. So be it.
Memphis is 209 miles north of Jackson.
Biden speaks with Jackson mayor about water crisis
Hundreds of millions of dollars have been given to Jackson by the feds to fix their water system and it’s been stolen by the corrupt city government and their cronies, it’s like pigs feeding at the trough. None of them will ever be prosecuted and they know it, they’re black and the inevitable cry of racism will keep them safe from any prosecution. Lumumba and his cronies stand about as much chance of being prosecuted as Hunter Biden. Some animals are more equal than others.
