As of Thursday morning (LT), August 4, 2022, over 540 000 residents living in the Tohoku and Hokuriku regions of Japan were ordered to evacuate as heavy rains continue falling over the Sea of Japan shoreline, triggering floods and landslides.
Evacuation orders are in effect in Aomori, Iwate, Yamagata, Fukushima, Niigata, Ishikawa and Fukui prefectures on August 4. Several people are missing. According to the country’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the Mogami River in Nagai, Yamagata Prefecture, overflowed its banks in the early hours of Thursday, flooding homes, roads and railways.
At least two bridges have already collapsed, one in Yamagata and another in Kitakata, Fukushima Prefecture

They’re used to it. Pacific rim. Earthquakes. Tohouku. The pretty girl region.
At the end of the monsoon season in Japan. Lived through it for 3 years. Days on non-stop rain, temps in the 90s, humidity through the roof. I’d have to empty my de-humidified several times a day. Not my favorite season.
Interesting. Wish they could move those rain clouds to dry areas in the USA where forest fires burn out of control. Horrible to loose all those homes and wild animals.
Japan has to be one of the most disaster prone countries in the world.
