Leftist website ratings firm NewsGuard is back to show the world why it’s a pathetic excuse for an internet traffic cop by giving FoxNews.com a failing grade while completely undercutting its own complaint.
NewsGuard downgraded FoxNews.com July 18 from a green-shield 69.5/100 rating in December 2021 to a red-shield 57/100, noting that the website “fails to adhere to several basic journalistic standards.” This is coming from the same firm that left the liberal USA Today’s perfect 100/100 score intact after the newspaper removed 23 stories because one of its reporters fabricated sources. NewsGuard even praised USA Today for how its “stories quote reliable sources.” One of NewsGuard’s contentions with Fox is that the news outlet allegedly fails to handle “the difference between news and opinion responsibly.” Apparently, NewsGuard couldn’t correctly discern the difference, either. A “Corrections” note put at the bottom of its “nutrition label” scorecard for Fox News admitted that an earlier version falsely “referred to Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham as anchors [who cover the news] instead of hosts [who lead opinion shows], of their nighttime Fox News Channel programs.” But NewsGuard’s obsession with dinging outlets it disagrees with isn’t new. A December 2021 MRC study found that outlets rated “left” or “lean left” by AllSides received an average NewsGuard score of 93/100. Sites that AllSides considered “right” or “lean right” like Fox News scored an average NewsGuard rating of 66/100.

"News diet" is a Stelterism. I don't know if he got it from them or they got it from him. Brian Stelter wants to have the same control over news that Michelle Obama had over school lunchers.
These are precursors, or a setup, for the eventual censorship of the media, in the future, under the guise of “public safety” and “good of the people”.
They will be able to say that these watchdog groups have been well established (even though it was a political setup from the beginning) and “non-partisan” and then when something comes out that’s mildly controversial, they will say “See look at their independent scoring, and now they are publishing radical information detrimental to the public good”.

They don’t like Fox News because they don’t put the word “false” before every reference to the stolen election.
All so-called “fact checkers” are just leftist operatives. Many here have fallen for “fact checker” lies when it comes to “Covid” or Ukraine. Facebook has admitted in a sworn pleading in Federal court (the Stossel libel case) that “fact checkers” only express opinions. For those who don’t know, in a libel case the truth of facts asserted is a complete defense. Facebook can’t make that claim with respect to its “fact checkers”, so it asserts the fact checkers are expressing matters of opinion, which is a defense under certain conditions. BTW, there are several main “fact checking” organizations that are used as contractors by the tech media/MSM.
NewsGuard is a browser extension that rates news sites based on how accurate or inaccurate their reporting is. But of course they define the standards. So you can think of them as self-appointed internet censors.
For example, they believe in man-made climate change. So if a website publishes an article that questions climate change, that site will get a low rating because of “misinformation”. And if should you visit that site, a warning message would pop up.

I didn’t realize it but the name says it all. “guard” is a synonym for defense, or sentry, or protection. So they are going to protect the people from information. Whatever information they don’t like.
If only Orwell could see how de-centralized propaganda and censorship really got implemented. He’d have to admire how very clever it really is.
Yep. They commonly say this is necessary “because reality doesn’t care what Republicans believe”.
Which is to say that “reality” is whatever Democrats believe.
They really have the balls to come right out and say stuff like this out loud!
