Ukraine will not agree to any solution that leaves at least the slightest gap for the possibility of a frontal attack by the Russian Federation on Ukrainian ports from the sea, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said.
"We will not agree to any solution that leaves even the slightest gap for the possibility of a frontal attack on Ukrainian ports from the sea by the Russian Federation," Kuleba said in an interview with Forbes.
He pointed out that for an agreement on the export of grain from Ukraine, it remains to resolve issues related to logistics and security.
"At the meeting in Istanbul, delegations at the expert level sat down and discussed a number of security issues that are within the competence of the military and logistics. We understand the political framework. It remains to resolve issues related to logistics and security. Yesterday, the delegations and negotiating teams largely resolved these issues. Now it all needs to be put on paper," the minister explained.
According to Kuleba, the President of the Russian Federation may agree to an agreement based on the desire to show countries in Africa and Asia that adhere to neutrality or are more inclined to the Russian position on the war that he saved them from starvation.
"From the point of view of logic, I see only one argument why Putin should agree. This is his desire to show countries that adhere to neutrality or are more inclined to the Russian position regarding the war (in Africa, Asia) that he saved them from famine, from rising food prices. Otherwise, I don't understand why he might need it. By agreeing to unblock Ukrainian ports, he undermines his efforts to strangle the Ukrainian economy. I think he now has Russia's reputation for Asian and African countries on one side of the scale, and the unwillingness to let Ukraine earn a penny on the other," he said.
That might not be possible.
The best solution then is no Ukrainian access to the sea.
Sounds like Ukraine figures that if they hold out until Kiev is taken, then perhaps a nuclear war will happen first and cause damage to Russia, which is preferable to them (meaning preferable to the Neocons) to letting the Russians keep any gains from this military operation.
...so, no downside for them. Bummer for the US, though, since regardless of what the NY Times claims, this country won’t come out very well with Russian thermonukes going off in our cities.
Those ports are absolutely critical to all the illicit trafficking that they have long been used for. They must be protected for the Big Guy’s handlers.
(at any cost to all of us.)
Obviously the Ukes know nothing about naval warfare. No such guarantee could ever be given.
Ha....not to shabby for a nation that doesn't have any naval force to have sunk a Russian battleship and a major supply vessel.
I guess you don’t either.
We are finding out the Russians were never 10 foot tall. We’ve been listening to too many folks with an interest in their own taxpayer gravy train. Pull out of NATO. Will Europe deal with their own defense?
“..has to assume that Russia will break the moment it gives them an advantage..”
As I recall, the last agreements were the Minsk Agreements of 2014 and 2015. I believe it is Ukraine who refused to honor them after signing on. And I have read it is Biden he kept them from doing so.
Oh no! Perfect analogy
Correct.
Ukraine will continue to keep their ports mined and continue to blame Russia for not shipping their grain.
Why would you think that Ukraine would think Russia can take Kiev when it failed the first time. Stop your pro Putin war mongering on nuclear war. The very fact that Putin is worried about the third world opinion and is negotiating on the grain issue is a sign he will probably not go crazy on the nuclear issue.
“Why would you think that Ukraine would think Russia can take Kiev when it failed the first time.”
I guess that I missed that assault on Kiev.
“The very fact that Putin is worried about the third world opinion and is negotiating on the grain issue is a sign he will probably not go crazy on the nuclear issue.”
I’m not worried about Putin using nukes first, only in retaliation for a Western strike, as it’s the West who are quickly expending their supply of conventional weapons and are years from taking delivery of new ones in any reasonable quantity, due to actually believing the idiotic book called “The End of History” and their woke/green/diversity/women-owned businesses/Indian-owned businesses crap that sticks molasses into production lines.
The Russians weren’t nearly as stupid, they actually PRIORITY production of military hardware.
*PRIORITIZE
If you missed the original assault on Kiev, then you were not paying attention or you were unwilling to imagine your favorite dictatorship could bungle so badly. I find it hard to believe that Russia is running ahead of the West in production of the newer weapons of war. I think they have worse supply chain problems than the West does. I’m sure there are others with better information than you or I have.

For a direct answer on producing running ahead of the West on producing newer weapons: they are not. They cannot even make more of what they already had. They cannot make the chips for those weapons; they cannot make the tools to make the chips; they cannot make high quality ball bearings.
