Texas Senator Ted Cruz said that he believes the U.S. Supreme Court was “clearly wrong” when it legalized same-sex marriage in 2015.
In Obergefell v. Hodges, The Court chose to legalize gay marriage in a 5 to 4 ruling in June 2015. The Supreme Court decision made it illegal for any state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories to deny a marriage certificate to same-sex couples.
Much like the Dobbs decision, the ruling cited the Due Process Clause and the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.
In a recent episode of his Verdict+ podcast, Cruz discussed the “vulnerability” of the Obergefell ruling.

Ted Cruz: legalizing gay marriage was clearly wrong. Well, duh, Sherlock!!!!!!
Gays were adopting children long before they were allowed to legally marry. The rot started long ago.
If they resort to the full faith and credit clause then gays will just get married in NY or CA.
Indeed. Yet a Supreme Court reversal of the gay marriage decision would likely cut the legs out from under constitutional claims to a right by gays to adopt children.
Sadly you are wrong. Gay couples were allowed to adopt kids before gay marriage was legalized.
Liberal states want to be trendy, understanding, etc.
Of course no legitimate study of this was done. Courts were more then happy to turn kids over to gay couples.
I don’t believe they are physically abusing children. But was it the best for kids? Probably not.
The decision legalizing gay marriage as a Constitutional right was absurd.
I wish there was a way to change out the word “gay” with “homosexual” in these articles and their titles. There is nothing “gay” about being homosexual.
Interestingly, even the voters in liberal states had rejected gay marriage, without exception.
Yes, they hijacked a beautiful term. I’ll add homophobia means fear of the same. Not fear of homosexuals.
Yeah the two ‘gay marriage’ rulings were very clearly agenda-driven. They found in favor of gay marriage once on states rights grounds, then turned right around and found in favor of gay marriage on opposite ‘reasoning’. As you can see, the one constant is whose policy preferences won.
Republicans should not mention gay marriage, at least not until after midterms, maybe never, the public is not with them.
Yes. More like, “Les Miserables”.
Way too late Cruz. You are useless and will not be missed.
Here is how to wage victory.. Get the freaking government(s) the hell out of it.
Its never to late, look at the abortion decision, don’t let your hatred of Cruz overwhelm your sensibilities
Exactly right. Sad to say.
Tactics. Stay out of culture wars. It’s the economy, stupid. Brandon is getting annihilated on the economy. Don’t let him change the issue so he’ll regain his footing.
California rejected homosexual marriages in a Statewide referendum on it. The Courts struck it down, but the voters whose State it is, voted agin it.
