Texas was a Republic - a separate country.
When admitted to the Union they reserved the right to Texit.
So we can go when we want.
That status begs other questions, such as, if Texas can secede whenever they want to, why didn’t they remain out of the union after the civil war? Theoretically they could have exercised that option then.
Yawn.
No, Texas can’t legally secede from the U.S., despite popular myth
The right they reserved was to divide into multiple states, not to secede.
So was California (for a few weeks, as The Bear Republic). But California these days feels like a foreign country, not part of the United States.

“Citizen of the Republic of Texas”
He was born in the Republic of Texas which existed from 1836-1846.
He donated the land on which the community school, church, and cemetery were built. He is buried in that cemetery, a little over a mile from my house at the farm. The community is gone, but he still lies there.
So we can go when we want.
When Texas was admitted to the Union if agreed to abide by the Constitution. Texas has the same powers and privileges as all the other states, no more and no less.
So no, Texas may not.
Amen
