Flashback: Majority of remaining fossil fuels must stay in the ground to limit climate crisis below critical threshold, study shows

To avoid the worst consequences of climate change — worsening extreme weather, irreversible ecosystem shifts, loss of life and economic hardship — scientists say the world must limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The only way to do that, they say, is by making deep cuts to fossil fuel emissions.

New research quantifies exactly what it would take: keeping a vast majority of Earth’s remaining fossil fuels tucked underground.

The study, published in the journal Nature on Wednesday, found that nearly 60% of the planet’s remaining oil and natural gas and 90% of its coal reserves should remain in the ground by 2050, underscoring that most regions around the world must reach peak fossil fuel production now or within the next decade to avoid the critical climate threshold.

THIS is the plan. We go back to pre-oil Hell while China passes us up.

Weren’t we told that it was already too late to prevent climate change? We should just live it up like it’s 1999.

And 50 years ago those same “scientists” were telling us the oil would have been all used up by now.

The majority has to stay in the ground so there is still most of it for the elites to own.

We can have global warming or a global ice age. Warming prevents an ice age. An ice age spells doom for most life on earth. Which is preferable?

No such thing as fossil fuels, just fossilized brains in climate-criers.

Yes, “they” were saying that when i was joining the navy in 1975. “The coming ice age is inevitable now” they said. That was 1975 the year i went active.

Carbon dioxide makes up 0.04% of the atmosphere. That is a tiny amount.
Of that CO2, on 3.2% is man-made.
The majority of CO2 comes from volcanoes, rotting vegetation, etc.

The war against fossil fuels is not about "saving the earth". It's about hatred of Man, reducing our population, destroying our civilization. It's just Nihilism.

The carbon we put in the air now is buying us time to go nuke which we will need as the climate grows colder.

Agree...they're full of cr**.

The best way to see this is by viewing a pie graph of the atmosphere..

My question...What will replace the Co2..it's a must.

Look at some pie graphs.

It’s also an effort funded by China and recently came out Russia was funding the anti oil efforts here to prop up the value of their own oil. So the Russian funded effort was actually against Trump because Trump wanted us a net exporter. They had to get Trump out of the way.

Of course, it’s the average idiot Dem working class and poor voter who is most impacted economically by these terrible policies. But they keep voting for it because they can’t get off the Dem plantation.

Related to that — Biden just came out and indicated that gas prices would stay high “as long as it takes” to end the war in Ukraine.

But high oil prices are what funds the Russian war machine. Biden is funding Russia and Biden is prolonging the war in Ukraine. And trashing the American economy. He’s serving Russia and China and not America. And he’s doing it pretty blatantly.

Several thousand products we use in our daily lives contain petroleum. What’s the plan to create the same products without petroleum?
