Rioting farmers broke through a police blockade at the home of nitrogen minister Van der Wal last night. According to the police, the situation was so unsafe for officers that they were unable to intervene immediately. "At the time, the choice was made for our own safety," the police wrote on Twitter.
The behavior of the farmers is criticized from several quarters. Police chief Willem Woelders calls it "completely unacceptable"...
With the attacks on the police, last night's farmers protest was the most violent since Minister Van der Wal announced the cabinet's nitrogen plans 2.5 weeks ago.
Last week, tens of thousands of farmers demonstrated in Stroe, also blocking several highways.
In recent days there have also been several roadblocks and actions at municipal and provincial houses, among others...
