...The Enquirer published its article in 1989 revealing the so-called 'Roe baby' had been found but, at her request, did not reveal Thornton's identity and she didn't meet with McCorvey.
Two years after the Enquirer article was published and as an unmarried 20-year-old, Thornton told Prager she discovered she was pregnant.
She was already planning to marry her partner Doug but she was 'not at all' eager to become a mother and Doug suggested they consider an abortion, she said, according to the excerpt in The Atlantic.
Thornton said her ties to the Roe v. Wade case had caused her to rethink her views on abortion.
When the Enquirer had tracked her down, her adoptive mom Ruth told the journalist 'we don't believe in abortion,' she told Prager.
The publication had then described her as pro-life because, The Atlantic reported, she had told the journalist 'she couldn't see herself having an abortion.'
Thornton told Prager she was unhappy with this description because she regarded pro-life as 'a bunch of religious fanatics going around and doing protests.'
However, she also didn't identify as pro-choice because 'Norma was pro-choice, and it seemed to Shelley that to have an abortion would render her no different than Norma,' Prager wrote in the book extract.
Thornton told Prager, in the excerpt obtained by The Atlantic, that she had come to the conclusion that religion and politics should not play a part in abortion law.
'I guess I don't understand why it's a government concern,' she said.
But she realized that abortion was 'not part of who I was' and decided to keep the baby - a son - and ensure he felt wanted....

Correction:
IS now about 30, with two full siblings.
Ruth is very ignorant. You don’t have to be a religious fanatic to be Pro-Life. Just read the full gory details of an abortion, online. That did it for me. And while I believe in God, and attend Church, I don’t consider myself a religious fanatic.
So only “religious nuts” believe murder is wrong? Wow, says a lot about today’s morality and scientific knowledge. A human is a human, no matter how small. And killing a human is called murder.
Interesting. Roe V. Wade and the deaths of millions of babies brought to you by the LBGTQ freaks! It’s almost like God warned us that faggotry is an abomination.... oh yeah, He did!
Article explains that Jane Roe was a lesbo who got angry when her daughter she wanted to abort asked her to be discreet with her lesbo partner around her 3 year old son.
Also interesting is that the child who was the subject of Roe v. Wade gets adopted by a childless couple, has an unplanned pregnancy when a little bit younger than her mom was at the time of her pregnancy with her, marries the father, stays married, is still married to him it appears, waits ten years after birth of the child from the unplanned pregnancy, a child she keeps, and then plans, presumably, at least one pregnancy with the father once they are around 30, and either plans a subsequent pregnancy or, it sounds more likely, gets pregnant again sooner than desired but bears and keeps that baby too.
Roe’s daughter survived, she didn’t know who her mother was until she was older, 20, I think. Roe’s was a drunk and exploited her fame, generally a dysfunctional and a not very nice person. The Roe baby was adopted, and seems to be doing fairly well.
I pray that Shelley Thornton desire to come out of anonymity and go on a pro-life speaking tour, perhaps with her son, the product of her own unplanned pregnancy.
bump
Norma McCorvey was pro-abortion, not pro-life, and was a very very crude person.
