Energy Sec. Jennifer Granholm indicated that President Biden has considered using the Defense Production Act to help mitigate the record-high gas prices, but stressed that it is just "one" of the tools at the presidentâs disposal.
"President Biden, like all other leaders around the world, are grappling with this for their citizens," Granholm said Wednesday at a White House press briefing. "And the president is doing everything he can to reduce prices for American families."
The price for gas nationwide has exceeded $5 a gallon for the first time since AAA started recording prices in 2000. The average price jumped $1.92 compared to this time last year.

Biden and his Admin could Resign that would fix a ton of problems
Yeah, a defense contractor can build a refinery and do oil exploration in a timely fashion.
Right.
I am against the government declaring any emergency for matters of convenience or political expediency, which the gas and diesel shortage is.
The United States is still exporting finished fuels. Why?
Team Obama, under Biden, created this entire mess, and they continue to deliberately exacerbate it. They told us countless times that energy costs would necessarily skyrocket. They repeatedly told us that this is all part of forcing the country into green energy and to save the planet.
No, once the government declares a false emergency, they amass powers to themselves that they never quite relinquish. Tell President Potato to drill, baby, drill.
Blacks and LGBTQ will get gas first. Sorry, white supremacists.
Nationalization of oil, here we come!
Then he shuts it down and sells it to China
👱🌴🙄
This scheme would not save anyone, except really heavy users of gasoline, much money at all.
Buy 10 gallons of gas and get $1.60. that is not enough to buy a cup of coffee let alone a meal.
Bull crap. Cancel your Day-1 Executive Order: 1) green light the XL Pipeline, 2) free the restrictions on drilling on federal leases, and 3) expedite the permitting process for oil exploration, drilling, transportation, and refining. After you do those things, then at least you're doing something to help the American public. Until you do those things, you're lying to us.
Maxine Waters suggested nationalizing oil companies sometime ago during one of her rants. We would end up with no gas at all.
Biden is full of contradictions. He continues to release oil from the SPR, thus making America weaker. The SPR is for strategic purposes in time of war. Biden does nothing about the southern border invasion other that aiding the cartels once illegals cross the border. That's a real defense problem, but it doesn't require the use of the defense production act.
The bottom line is Biden misuses every part of government and makes everything worse.
It worked for Mussolini. Fascism here we come!
“The United States is still exporting finished fuels. Why?”
Probably because the companies producing them find it profitable to do so.
I think that’s what this story is getting at though, if Biden declares fuel a “strategic necessity”, he can stop private companies from doing stuff like exporting it, even if exporting it would be in the interest of their shareholders.
I get angrier and angrier each passing day. I didn’t think it was possible. But it is.
Yes. So Biden strangles gas production then uses inflated gas prices as a pretext for nationalizing the oil industry. Diabolical. Hugo Chavez would be so proud. Get ready fro $100 a gallon of gas. Not to forget to mention, famine.
Uncomfortable info:
The richest countries in the world are arguably Norway and Saudi Arabia. Both have nationalized oil industry.
Norway’s Sovereign Wealth Fund is over $1T, on constrast with US debt of $30T. KSA’s SWF is about $ 700B. They do have some debt of insignificant magnitude.
So don’t go crazy about nationalized oil. It works for the big boys. At $30T of debt, we are not a big boy.
Kabuki theater is a real phenomenon.
Or he could take the handcuffs off the gas and coal industries?
Worked real well for Valenzuela and Brazil too.
