If we were a smart nation, we’d use our fossil fuels (I’ve heard we have between 100-400 years worth under our feet. And we’ve only been using it for about 100 years already). Go ahead… develop your “clean” system - one that WORKS.. we have at least another 100 years to do that.

Yes, and THAT is the whole problem with government. Government is NOT supposed to be about having 'leaders'. We don't need leaders from the government. The government should be thought of as people we hire to perform specific functions. Hired help, beholden to us and getting paid at our discretion.
In general those in government are the least qualified to do any specific job, and thus should be guided by people who actually do those jobs. It is imperative that they realize and understand their limitations, and approach their jobs with humility and a sense of serving others.
We will never have the government envisioned in the Constitution until we take the hubris and arrogance away from elected office - entirely. When politicians start talking trash about the electorate (e.g. a 'basket of deplorables' the MAGA crowd, etc.) we have a huge problem and a huge disconnect between what those hired help are supposed to be and their entirely false self-image.
That the POTUS went on some comedian's 'talk show' is a joke in and of itself. We have enough jokes in government.
