Justice Department again asks Jan. 6 committee to turn over transcripts from witness interviews

The Justice Department is again asking the Democrat-led committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot to turn over interview transcripts, saying the delay "complicates" the agency's own probe.

“The Select Committee’s failure to grant the Department access to these transcripts complicates the Department’s ability to investigate and prosecute those who engaged in criminal conduct in relation to the January 6 attack on the Capitol,” reads the June 15 letter, according to Politico.

The letter also states having the transcript is “critical” for federal investigators to "know the identity of all witnesses who have information relevant to the Department’s ongoing criminal investigation."

The committee has thus far refused to turn over information.

“My understanding is they want to have access to our work product. And we told them, 'No, we’re not giving that to anybody,' " Committee Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson said last month.

The committee plans to release its final report later this year.

If there even are accurate transcripts, they would expose the fact that the committee’s public emissions totally misrepresent what witnesses said.

This is the committee attempting to keep the DOJ from being able to make a non-criminal decision of specific “targets” of the committee that the committee is planning on referring to DOJ for criminal referrals. They can’t have the “non-criminal” decision to be made prior to the mid-terms. The closer to the mid-terms that they can announce the referral the less time there is for the DOJ to determine that there is no there there. I expect that the committee will make referrals of congressmen/women and high ranking former Trump associates just prior to the mid-terms for the shock effect.
