Senate ‘Outline’ on Gun Control, June 12, 2022
AmmoLand ^ | June 12, 2022 | Dean Weingarten

On June 12, 2022, a group of 10 Republican and 10 Democrat senators agreed on an “outline” on a proposed gun control bill.

Significantly, 10 Republicans are needed to overcome the filibuster in the Senate if all 50 Democrats join in passing a particular bill.

Few details have been seen about the “outline.” The details are critical.  Broad “outlines” are not legislation and have no force of law.

Senator Murphy of Connecticut appears to be the prime mover on this push. He is quoted by voanews.

He said the agreement would provide unspecified “major funding to help states pass and implement crisis intervention orders (red-flag laws) that will allow law enforcement to temporarily take dangerous weapons away from people who pose a danger to others or themselves.”

Murphy said there would be “billions in new funding for mental health and school safety, including money for the national build-out of community mental health clinics.” He said the legislation would “close the ‘boyfriend loophole,’ so that no domestic abuser — a spouse or a serious dating partner — can buy a gun if they are convicted of abuse against their partner.”

He said the legislation would include a prohibition against people buying guns for others and enhance background checks for gun buyers under 21. Both the Buffalo and Uvalde mass shootings were carried out by 18-year-olds.

In addition, Murphy said the law, if approved by Congress, would clarify “who needs to register as a licensed gun dealer, to make sure all truly commercial sellers are doing background checks.”

Red-flag laws do not appear to produce measurable results. They can be very effective at undercutting fundamental Constitutional rights.  The wording used in this reporting, does not bode well:

will allow law enforcement to temporarily take dangerous weapons away from

The devil is in the details.

It appears the Senators are getting pushback.

Cornyn is already making noises about problems with the "outline".

The article lists the senators involved, with phone numbers.

If they were serious about protecting government school students from mass shootings they would repeal Joe Biden's Gun-Free School Zone Act, but they are not interested in protecting them, just using their deaths for political leverage.

REPEAL THE GUN-FREE SCHOOL ZONE ACT OF 1990

FACT: Guns prevent an estimated 2.5 million crimes a year or 6,849 every day. 98+% of the time the gun is not fired and no blood (including the criminal’s) is shed.

A quick Internet search indicates about 300,000 guns are stolen annually.

A red flagged person only needs cash to buy one.

There is also the possible situation that a gunowner may have bought two guns and buried one.

Police might seize the one unburied gun, but will they lock the gunowner up until the other one is produced?

What if the other gun is sold off for prison script? It can not be subsequently produced by the gunowner.

There is some sort of pushback that has stalled the bill. Keep your fingers crossed.

These Republicans should, know by now that whenever they compromise, they get raked over the coals, and it will happen again as soon as they sign on, as the left will go through a process I think is called “reconci, liation”? or something like that where they will then add all kinds,of crap to,the bill and there is nothing the Republicans can do to stop it since they already signed on.

This bill can not stand. No bill should, but this bill is the beginning g of the end for the second d amendment as it takes the right of the gun owner to have their firearms at the ready, in their own homes, in case of home Invasion

Grant stinchfeld showed a home video of someone where 3 maggots kicked down the front door, and one maggot went through the bedroom door with his gun drawn, and the owner fired several shots as soon as the maggot entered the room. The 3 maggots then ran from the home.

There is no way the homeowner would, have had time to unlock his gun cabinet, then unlock, his gun, then load his gun to defend himself from those 3 maggots. The whole thing happened in under 20 Seconds, and I’m sure the home owner was awakened to,the sound of the front door being kicked in, and once that happened, the maggot was walking into the owners room within a couple seconds.

IF anyone in congress had any guts at all, they would show that video, and state thatnthere is no way this side of hell that they are going to endanger homeowners like, that by rewuiring them to unlock and .oad their guns while, maggots are already in the house! Nor are they going to limit, EVER! The magazine capacity. The home owner fired several shots at just the first maggot- he woild, have been out of ammo almost while, having to deal, with the other 2 maggots had they decided to stay and fight, and you know darn well they would, have large capacity magazines because criminals DO NOT OBEY THE LAW!

IF THIS bill passes, we are well on our way to becoming new zealand or Canada where people will,be felons if they own guns for self protection. Also, will it be a felony if one doesn’t lock up their guns and ammo and gun cabinets? I’m sure it will be a felony if they have magazines over 7 rounds if the bill passes

Gee, won’t that be swell if we get invaded? “Gosh foreign bad guys, time out, I gotta reload!”

RINOS are too stupid to know Maoists on the left NEVER have an end game, they always want and get more, step by step. Our sign of a compromise is the white flag we always wave.

> It appears the Senators are getting pushback.

Claiming these people are "tone deaf" is no longer a rational explanation, especially since they stressed getting this framework through as quickly as possible.

Murphy was literally pushing for this legislation on the Senate floor while victims were still being evacuated/recovered from Uvalde (you-val-dee for the red-diaper-doper baby journolist types).

It's beyond obvious all of these Senators want to disarm you.

However the "bipartisan" Republicans are by far the most treacherous of the lot, since they know their constituents understand the Second Amendment's meaning, internet, history, and importance.

[[Police might seize the one unburied gun, but will they lock the gunowner up until the other one is produced?]]

Just tell them “it was stolen by a felon” as that will be “mostly the truth” because the gun owner will now be a felon for having the “illegal guns” in the first place.

It’s gonna come down to where law abiding citizens have to become felons, and switch their party affiliation to liberal, and self identify as black and gay in order to be protected by the law

Exactly.

[[However the “bipartisan” Republicans are by far the most treacherous of the lot]]

And also, because they onow, they won’t be running again, so,they are gonna blatantly betray conservatives nationwide before they leave office. I suspect they are gonna get plenty of $$ from the left somehow for betraying conservatives.

“He said the legislation would include a prohibition against people buying guns for others”

So parents could not buy their child a gun as a present? I’m worried that things are falling into the Democrat’s long-term goal of not allowing young people be socialized in a healthy way - such as parents teaching their children gun safety and gun use (children being taught how to misuse guns in a gang will still be allowed).

Police can only do that if they know that another gun exists. That is why we fight so hard against gun registries.
