Kind of like those stupid Austin Powers movies.

I expected a light-hearted comedy with 60’s pop cultural references. Instead it was nothing but the absolute most idiotic sixties stereotypes all rolled into an extremely lame James Bond spoof.

I learned to despise Democrats(LBJ), distrust Black culture(Watts riots), like Santana’s music ( I lived in Paramount Ca),and to get the heck out of Cailfornia.
It was failing.

Love the picture of the Lucas bottle! I had a ‘58 4/4 Morgan and I had to lift the bonnet(hood) every morning to sand the ends of the fuses to get it to start.

Miss that stupid thing.

My mother’s sister and her husband had a ‘63 Jaguar E-type that was in the shop every few months getting a new fuel pump. Also, if you drove it through a puddle the ignition system would short out.

Other than that, it was a great car.

Maybe there was no drinking in the office but there was cold beer in the coke machine at the auto parts store I worked at. We weren’t supposed to crack one before 4:30. I was 16 at the time.

Drinking in the office? Usually that was done after work.

I've been in companies that still had their offices furnished as they were back in the sixties. A few things stood out:

-pedestal ashtrays that had the holders for pipes and the knob to knock the burnt tobacco out
-liquor server stations in the side cabinets
-steam radiators
-outside windows that could open
-swivel windows located above doors to halls to circulate air
-paper weights that were needed because of fans and open windows prior to air conditioning
-two-prong electrical outlets and very few outlets overall
-floor lamps
-tile floors instead of carpet in offices

Retired military I was stationed with described smoking and drinking in the offices "back in the day". The drinking was described as something for after lunch and important meetings.

The biggest flaw of Mad Men was trying to pass Elizabeth Moss off as good looking.

True dat. The women from the 60’s were smoking hot and acted feminine, at least that’s how I remembered them as a kid approaching my teens. God, what happened? I know, but I can’t say.

In the 60's, near Yankee Stadium under the el on Jerome Ave was a garage run by the local go to guy when it came to British cars. He would always have an E Type or two undergoing repairs. You had to remove the entire front clip and the engine just to replace the clutch throwout bearing, which were known to prematurely wear out.

Key word there is “sucker”. ;^) I owned a ‘64 MG midget for a summer. Super fun, sold it before I had to fix anything.

At least they were chasing women. Now they are either turning into women, or chasing each other

Myth #1. All the girls were hot, wore short-short skirts, and white go-go boots.

Actually, that's no myth at all.

I’ll say it. Too much booze, too many men, drugs, nachos, pizza, cheesecake, tattoos, poor dating/genetic choices by their mothers and grandmothers (bad/ugly boys), spoiling, lack of teaching,... Much the same as what happened to the last couple of generations of men. Most of ‘em look like...well, chodes.

yep, most were hot, because most were not OBESE like today.

IMO the reason the birth rate has dropped is because everyone is SO FAT and no one wants to have sex with them!

Heck I think it’s a good part of the reason so many people are questioning their sexuality. They are not attracted to ANY of the OBESE people of the opposite sex, and start thinking... maybe I am gay!

Or when Betty Draper has a picnic and leaves all her trash on the grass in the park. I'm thinking even back then, you probably didn't graduate Bryn Mawr thinking that was something you could do.

There were a lot of plot problems with the series. There was also a definite bias. Don's daughter went through all these changes, while his son stayed the same age for the whole decade. The appeal was the recreation of the physical look of the 1960s.

Those cool, swinging Early Sixties hipsters were a portent of what was to come. People wanted the cool, swinging lifestyle so much, and look what happened.

I’m with you. I loved their hair styles and clothing. Just take a look at any high school yearbook from 1968.
